THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF ONE ALREADY COMPLETED Hourly Rounding I have been able to devote the necessary time to this project since I started working on my days off, therefore I made the right decision. I did not like the notion at first, even though working on my days off is turning out to be the best course of action. It was a little unsettling to walk into work and see my already understaffed and overworked colleagues. I was afraid people would believe I am doing nothing but standing around when it is obvious they need help. But, because I was worried, I prayed and made it my mission to do more than just stand around starring. Getting in the Groove Since meeting with the IT Epic department and learning that there is a tool Epic already have that can automatically populate when it is time to complete hourly rounding on each patient, I went in search for the Epic computer room. When I found it, I spent quite some time there on different days to see how this tool would work. I first chose one patient, then I chose four patients another day to walk through the entire scenario. After working out a few kinks, the tool was up and running! Education and Observation When the tool was operating at its peak efficiency, I could see management’s preferred method of education, as well as the staff using the newest process.  Although I did hear some complaints, I eventually began to see the advantages of staff compliance and the rounding tool that automatically populated in the Epic system. Generally, this has been successful, though some staff members still need to implement this process into their daily work habits to see how it will help. Seeing this happen in such a short amount of time has truly astonished me. Nurses can gain significant advantages by familiarizing themselves with the essential warning signs of sepsis. Also, the patients benefit because sepsis can be costly and life threatening. The hospital organization benefits as well with their quality control numbers increasing.   Personal/Professional Expectations What do you hope to gain from this Project, both professionally and personally?  Professionally, I aim to enhance my knowledge and skills in identifying and managing sepsis, ultimately improving patient outcomes and contributing more effectively to interdisciplinary healthcare teams. Personally, I hope to feel a greater sense of confidence and fulfillment in my ability to provide quality care, knowing that I am equipped to recognize and respond to sepsis promptly and effectively. Additionally, I aspire to deepen my understanding of the complexities surrounding sepsis and its impact on patients and their families, fostering empathy and compassion in my nursing practice. Success will be measured by a decrease in mortality rates associated with sepsis within the healthcare facility.
