This assignment is a 3-4 page (double spaced) essay analyzing an artwork of your choice. You can choose your object at the websites one of the following locations (please don’t search from the open web):
-Denver Museum of Art
-National Museum of the American Indian website (New York and Washington locations)
Choose only ONE object that you want to write your paper about. This should be something that you find visually interesting. It could be an object that leaves you with lingering questions from lectures, or simply something that you found visually appealing. You will be analyzing its visual elements followed by a discussion of its historical and cultural contexts.
The completed paper should be approximately 3-4 pages double spaced, with visual analysis and contextual analysis each taking up about half the paper’s length.
You do not need to have a thesis statement or argument for this paper. The focus should be on practicing skills of visual analysis, including using evocative, descriptive language to write about the piece in as much detail as possible. Following your description of the piece, you should also discuss 2-3 of the most important cultural, historical, or contextual elements of the artwork.
