A- Based off of the material we have gone over from weeks 14 and 15 there were many different ways in which food sovereignty and climate justice are related to the “Land Back” movement and American Indian identity. The movement of “Land Back” helped to advocate for returning the ancestral lands to the indigenous individuals. This movement helped with the broader struggles that the indigenous individuals had with their self-determination, as well as, their rights. This movement really helped with restoring the lands and bringing attention to the social and economic issues. Food sovereignty was about the rights these communities had to control their own food systems. Achieving food sovereignty for many of these indigenous communities was to involve the use of traditional agricultural techniques and trying to reconnect them with the land to ensure cultural sustainability and food security. Climate justice was brought up to help address the issues about the impact that climate change has don’t these marginalized communities, including the indigenous people. The indigenous individuals would often experience a loss of traditional resources and environmental degradation due to climate change. The issues that came with climate justice align with the “Labd Back” movement because of how these indigenous communities were often put at the forefront of environmental activism, as well as, the impacts of climate change. The “Land Back” movement climate justice, food sovereignty, and American Indian identity have many different interceptions on how they are all connected. These four topics all had the main goal of seeing the issues and wanting to address them. ————————————————————————————————————————————————-
B- When it comes to the Land Back movement, food sovereignty and climate justice tie into American Indian Identity. The Land Back movement has been an important aspect of the advocacy of getting the indigenous land returned to its rightful owners. Lead by activists, the movement is important to the community by having tradition based land agriculture. The land that the indigenous people live on is a very important to their culture and traditions. When it comes to food sovereignty, it is all about having control over their own food system. This is not just how consumption, distribution, and production, but is also about the spiritual practices, and maintaining a relationship with the land. This is very important because the land that the indigenous community lives on something that is meaningful to them. It ties into the tradition that food is a very important part of this, and having the proper land to partake in the tradition. When it comes to climate justice, it is important because it has to do with the change in climate and how the land changes over time. The land is such a precious piece of native American culture that seeing the kinda way that climate change has affected this needs to be fixed. The climate and land have been neglected and changed over time, and this has to be fixed. The importance of climate justice is so that the land can finally be restored by the proper people who will actually take care of their sacred land. It ties into the tradition of the land being a big part of the native culture, so reclaiming the land so they can fix it is a must.
