CLASSMATE POST 1 Teamwork and group collaboration is extremely important for nurses and healthcare professionals in general. Collaboration can generate more efficiency in studying, in the classroom, and especially in the workforce. Group collaboration also can help to reduce errors because there are more eyes on a certain project or collaboration. According to Spring Arbor University, the definition of healthcare collaboration is where two more more people work together towards one common goal. When students, nurses, doctors, and assistive personnel work together, they can create the best plan possible for a patient. Collaboration requires interpersonal communication skills and specific knowledge for certain aspects of learning.
I feel like this is extremely important in the classroom as well as the workforce. Case studies and group work are definitely not my favorite thing, but I always learn so much when we do it. Its pretty cool to see all of the different ideas that come together, especially the things that I would have never thought of. Everyone has different perspectives to add and different learning styles that help us to retain information. For me, a lecture and power point is a really good way for me to learn. I always learn a lot in the classroom. However in lab, I am always less excited to learn even though I know all of this is important and skills are important. Lab can be really helpful because you can learn so much from others! Basically ever since I have started nursing school I have realized that group work is essential in healthcare and something that I really should get used to, and I have! Working with others really helps to increase our confidence and encourage new styles of learning for all students involved! I look forward to more group work because you really do learn so much!
CLASSMATE POST 2 What are some good strategies for Group Collaboration?
It is widely known that when people share their ideas to others, that it creates unique opportunities for learning and growth with everyone involved. It can encourage out of the box thinking. Or, it can solidify the knowledge that some of the members have. I know I often have a difficult time with group work. So for me, study groups are not only helpful because of the material that is being presented, they are also helpful because they help me learn how to work as a unit. It helps reinforce how to get along with, to present to, and to listen from, a group of people. I think that already is a great learning strategy considering there will be lots of future group work in school as well as being a nurse. This is a good example of kinesthetic learning. Christina Pavlou (2021) concerning kinesthetic learners said: “This type of learner needs to be bodily engaged while learning; they need to be able to create, practice, and collaborate. Kinesthetic learners do great in “learn-by-doing” environments.”
There are several other types of learners. Another type of learning is visual learning. Graphs and visual representations of information are very helpful for this type of learning. Auditory learning does best with lectures and talks. Reading learners do best with reading the material that they need to know. In my opinion, even if someone is one specific type of learner, it does not mean they should only stick to that type of learning. If someone really wants to truly learn something, it would be important that they utilize all learning types. This also goes hand in hand well with study group collaboration. If a study group utilizes all of the learning types at once, not only will it help everyone involved who has different learning preferences, it will also help activate every part of a person’s brain as they get all of these different forms of the same information.
Original Discussion Prompt:
Discuss strategies for study group collaboration based on different learning styles.
Example of How to Respond to a Student Discussion Post:
Hi Nita,
I like how you discuss both the teacher observing the student and the student observing their own art. You bring up excellent points about the teachers observing the children, because it does help the teacher to better communicate with the children and understand them better. As teachers, it is very important to nurture students, particularly if they are very young, I think, because it allows them to better understand the needs of the student, and how to work with them. Paying attention to what the student is drawing, and seeing how the student reacts to their own work can improve the teachers’ understanding.
Expressing feelings in this discussion board reply examples is a major component of growing up. The more a student is able to express those feelings, the more they can understand them. I liked reading about what you said on this topic, and I agree that the art is a very useful tool that students can learn to express their feelings effectively. If they do not express them, they are keeping them inside, and drawing can become a form of counseling for them. In my opinion, I think the drawing can be particularly useful for many students who are quiet. These students do not often express themselves verbally, and drawing can be a way for them to understand their feelings, and to release some pent up sadness of hostile feelings, for example. I think this form of therapy sticks with many people throughout life, and they continue to use drawing as a coping mechanism.
Thanks,
Steven
