Write a synopsis to a science fiction story (your own original one (or use AI to help you generate one). The story should speak to the themes in this unit on toxicity.  How can your science fiction story challenge readers to think about or consider solutions to problems posed by living with toxicity? You are not writing a short story fiction (although it’ll be really cool if you are so inspired and did!) You are writing a clear synopsis.
Then you will create a photo essay on powerpoint, keynote or even word.  You will upload it as a PDF only.  Please do not send us to an external link because they are not always accessible for all.
Your photo essay should use this format:
First slide: compelling photo + synopsis to a sci/fi story (from #2 above)
Make at least another 4 more slides (no more than 6) which will include the following. Label each of the slides with the following.  It is a photo essay so each slide should have a compelling photo to help guide your text.
*Slide 2:  (see note below) TOXIC WORLDING: Discuss the themes of toxic worldingLinks to an external site. from each of the films (Pumzi and Nausicaa) and the short story “Poison Fish” and how they intersect/are in conversation with/inspired your own story.  If you used AI, then how did the AI capture those themes in your prompts. Each discussion of the themes per film and short story should be at least 500 words long.
Slide 3: ANALYSIS: Critique and/or discuss your own science fiction story (or the AI generated one) on the synopsis — what elements of toxic worlding is most prevalent in your story?
Slide 4: REFLECTION: Discuss how an ethnographer and chemist could come together to study new visions of a world otherwise using your own story for a chemo-ethnography lesson like this? How will they use your story to help students understand toxic worlding? 500 words.
