Hayden gives an in-depth and vivid account of her experiences working with six children with emotional and behavior disorders (EBD) without sugarcoating the unpredictability and realities of her daily classroom life working with students, staff and families.
You are expected to read 2-3 chapters in the book each week, and write a review of approximately 3 pages. The purpose of this assignment is threefold: (1) learning from a devoted special educator and her students with EBD, (2) having the opportunity to speculate on supporting behaviors portrayed in the book, and (3) reflecting on teacher interactions (a) before 1988 publishing and (b) guid ance of current FERPA regulations.
Rubric (attached below) should be used to guide your construction of this assignment. Include titles of rubric “Criteria” as specific headings to identify sections where criteria from the rubric are addressed.
Your book review should include the following 4 sections:
Take-Aways: Ideas, strategies, or thoughts learned from the book, include specific examples.

Reflection on FERPA: Interactions described in the book © 1988 that would be considered violations of current FERPA regulations (reauthorized in 2011- making connections to your Foundations of Special Education Course).
