Observation #1A Gross Motor and #1B Fine Motor Skills Overarching Goals in this

Observation #1A Gross Motor and #1B Fine Motor Skills
Overarching Goals in this Observation Component:
You will have the opportunity to observe children in their natural habitat at their early childhood program. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to objectively observe children’s physical development.
Evaluate children’s gross motor development
Evaluate children’s fine motor development
Understanding the Two Observations
You will see that I am providing you with two parts of this observation:
Observation #1A – Gross Motor Skills
Observation #1B – Fine Motor Skills
I have separated these observations into two documents so that you can focus your attention on each one, and if desired, can ideally complete these observations on two different days. Each one will take about 1-1.5 hours to complete.
Assignment
Step 1 – Make an appt with one of our observation sites or a local preschool
Call the site and let them know you are needing to complete an observation of gross and fine motor skills and that you will need to come when the schedule includes outdoor play so that you can observe children’s gross motor skills.
Be sure you bring your immunization checklist (completed in Module 2). You will need this to show the school.
Be sure to dress appropriately
Bring a clipboard, paper, and pen to take good notes!
Step 2 – Observations
In the following observations, you will notice that each section provides a reminder of whether you are completing an anecdotal note or running record or other type of tool. Remember to be objective! Remember that anecdotal notes are brief 1-3 sentences written in past tense, and running records are ongoing writing in present tense with time and space noted.
Take detailed notes during your observation. BE OBJECTIVE!
Final papers must be typed and section headers should be present.
Submit #1A and #1B observations in separate documents
In the comment section, please put the preschool name where you completed your observation, the teacher’s name, and the time and date.
All observation notes must be attached to your final paper.
