Assignment: Choose someone to interview; it can be another student in class, or a relative, friend, housemate, co-worker, etc. Elicit an “illness narrative” from your partner following the interview sheet questions. Submit into Canvas a written paper (4-5 pages, typed, double-spaced) in which you analyze the illness narrative in terms of its structure or “plot.” What is the beginning, middle, and end to the narrative you describe? You will want to include background information about your interviewee (but not their real name); their experience of suffering (symptoms, problems encountered in care or treatment, social interactions, etc.); the remedies sought (biomedical and/or alternative), and their belief in the causation of illness or injury. Use the rubric “Writing up your illness narrative” as a guide. DUE 11/03
