Impact of transformational leaders at a large urban community college on the behaviors of mid-level managers
Purpose
With new leadership comes adjustments to varying leadership styles and expectations. This leadership’s staff and faculty motivation and reception are critical for the college to reach its goals. As a senior leader and member of the extended cabinet, I directly supervise mid-level directors that receive directives from me to deploy for execution. Seventy-five percent of the current senior leadership staff have less than 12 months of tenure. I am academically curious about the perspectives of mid-level managers on their direct supervisors.

What major impact has a key initiative or operational change suggested by senior leadership had on your department or functional area?
How has this key initiative or operational change affected your perception of your role at the college?
Research Design
My research approach is a case study that will combine a qualitative analysis and semi-structured interviews to capture the perspective of mid-level managers at a large urban community college. This study will explore the transformational theory of leadership. These semi-structured interviews will include one-on-one engagement to capture all elements and precise perspectives of midlevel managers. This qualitative research will include detailed narratives that I will capture through face-to-face and video conference Zoom or MS Teams.
My study will include conducting interviews with all staff members from all functional areas within the college, including enrollment management, academic advising, sponsored and special populations programs, academic affairs (deans/program chairs), and student affairs. These interviews will capture the perspectives of individuals serving in a mid-level leadership position and examine the current impact of new senior-level leaders at the college. The findings will inform senior executive-level leaders about strategic plans for future management initiatives.
