You have been hired by the Texas governor as a consultant. Your job, as a consultant, is to develop a plan for Texas politics that respects the political culture of Texas, improves the overall functioning of Texas government, and meets the needs of Texas citizens. Whew! Because you have to balance many demands, this will be a difficult job. But, the Texas governor (and I) have every confidence that you have learned the information to facilitate your success. Because you are a consultant, you will have to explain how the selected branch of government currently operates, as well as your suggestions for improving the overall functioning of this branch of government. Also, while the governor is open to change — you will need to address his/her/their concerns about the challenges he/she/they will encounter trying to make these changes. (In other words, he/she/they needs a “heads up” about what roadblocks might be encountered when trying to improve the functioning of a branch of government.) Additionally, in order to “sell” the idea of change the governor will need information about how the citizens of Texas might benefit from any changes in the branches of government.
If we break down the steps you will need to take to successfully fulfill your consulting role, it would look like the following.
1. Explain how your selected branch of government currently operates.
2. Explain why your selected branch of government needs to improve.
3. Make suggestions about what you would change to improve your selected branch of government.
4. Explain the challenges you will encounter when trying to make those changes.
5. Explain how your suggestions benefit the citizens of Texas.
