Using two or three examples from the course, explore how women have interpreted

Using two or three examples from the course, explore how women have interpreted
religious, spiritual, or theological themes in order to understand their religious
obligations, and/or to counter socio-cultural expectations regarding women’s roles in
society.
1. Your work should have a clear thesis statement and structure.
2. Your essay should include a minimum of four academic sources, at least two of which
must be from the course readings. At least one of your sources must be an outside
reading (either from another class, or from your own outside research). You may draw
upon your lecture notes, but they do not count as one of the four academic sources.
3. Include a works-cited page.
4. Style and grammar will be graded.
5. Your response should be 8-10 pages, double-spaced. (Please note that this means the
minimum is 8 full pages, and the maximum is 10 full pages.) This does not include the
works-cited page.
6. Use 12 point, Times New Roman font.
7. Margins should be 1-inch.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
• These questions do not provide you with a thesis statement. It is up to you to create an
argument around the questions themselves. Think of the questions as springboards for your
own arguments.
**If you are unsure about your argument/thesis statement, you are welcome to submit it
to your T.A. by e-mail for comments. **
• Always remember to qualify the contexts you are discussing (which community, which
text, which region, which period, which religion, etc.) The more specificity the better.
• Your essay should include a minimum of four written sources in addition to your lecture
notes, at least two of which must be from the course readings. At least one of your sources
must be an outside reading.
