This assignment includes a written summary & comparison of a popular media article
and a research article on some topic of adolescent development (e.g. memory, brain
function, learning, puberty, peer relationships, moral development, identity). For this
assignment, find a popular media article (e.g. Parents, Family Fun, Newsweek, Time,
etc.) and a research article from a professional peer-reviewed journal (e.g. Adolescence,
Developmental Psychology, Cognitive Development, Developmental Science, Memory
and Cognition). Articles should date from 2009 or later. Summarize both articles and
analyze them using your textbook, class notes, and/or supplemental readings.
Summary and analysis should be 4-5 typed, double-spaced pages (not including title
and reference pages). Some questions to consider are:
• How does each article contribute to knowledge and understanding of the topic?
• Does each article support or contradict other information in the field? How so?
• How are the articles similar? How are they different?
• What message can individuals take away from each article?
