Around 2007, Starbucks was underperforming. Mr. Schulz returned to Starbucks and turned around it, transforming it into a highly successful global firm. Discuss some of the culture related strategies that Mr. Schulz undertook in order to transform Starbucks into the powerhouse it is today.Organizational Culture is a major aspect of all organizations. Dr. Schein, an emeritus professor at the MIT School of Management, founded the field of organizational culture. His work is seminal and the foundation of this area of research. Founders and leaders are responsible for defining and implementing culture or leading organizational culture change. According to Schein, culture is “pattern of shared basic assumptions learned by a group as it solved its problems of external adaptation and internal integration (…) a product of joint learning.
Schein identifies 3 levels of culture: artifacts (visible), espoused beliefs and values (may appear through surveys) and basic underlying assumptions (unconscious taken for granted beliefs and values: these are not visible”).

Leaders set the company direction by defining the vision and mission. Culture must be aligned with the vision. Management is in charge with further implementing and communicating the culture to employees, including individual, departmental, and organizational goals.
