H‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍ere is the description of the course that I am taking: This course helps students improve and expand their communication skills by providing them with exposure to professional clinical communications. Clinical, verbal, and written interactions are emphasized, including those with other clinicians as well as patients. Through exercises and discussions students will explore characteristics and approaches that benefit the patient/practitioner and other professional relationships. Assignment details: The assignment is to write journal entries about active listening and traits of an excellent clinical communicator (empathy, genuineness, respect, self-disclosure, and warmth) after practicing them. In other words, the professor asked us to focus on these skills in the conversation that we are having with a colleague, at a grocery store, a friend, etc. When writing the entries, we should be self-reflective. For the active listening: we should focus on: What was my experience when I was doing it? What was my experience regarding what I noticed happened? Was it natural or not? Did I have a hard time doing it, or did I do it smoothly/well? What did I notice about the person who I was talking to? ., Led up, t‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍hanked me for listening to them, etc. For the traits of an excellent clinical communicator, we need to focus on what is mentioned above with active listening and the following: How was my body posture? Were my arms folded? Was I sitting up straight? Was I leaning forward or not? Did I have good eye contact? Think about the facial expression; did I express some level of warmth or smile?.. etc. Each entry should be two paragraphs. Therefore, the number of entries that the professor asks us to write for this assignment is six (do 3 for the active listening and do three from the traits of an excellent clinical communicator). Please look at the uploaded files, which include the lectures about active listening and traits of an excellent clinical communicator. Here are the required texts for the course in case you need them: The Medical Interview: Mastering Skills for Clinical Practice; 5th Edition. Coulehan, ., Block, .
