FINAL PAPER
The paper will be six pages in length, double spaced and in APA format.
The reference page is not included in that number, it is extra.
The paper will explore a social problem from a sociological perspective and offer potential approaches to addressing the issue.
It will not be a sentimental discussion of your feelings or a list of ways to fix the world.
It will be a thoughtful evaluation of a social problem that considers the issue from a theoretical, social and political perspective. Remember you have taken a course on these issues, show proof of that.
You need sources that are reliable. You need a discussion that is balanced (Your ideas are supported by the sources).
Employ chapter one’s conversation on a defining a social problem before you begin your discussion of you chosen issue.
Topic and paper outline below
Homelessness
The social problem which will be addressed is homelessness in the United States of America. According to statistics done in 2017, the estimated figure of homeless people in America is 553,742 individuals. By 2020 the figures of homeless people had increased to 580,466. This shows that the crisis is not getting any better (Alpert, 2020). 70% of the homeless live alone with no family, as most do not have family members, while others, their families, are not aware of their condition (Alpert, 2020).
Additionally, most of the homeless people are made up of young children and young adults. The other population consists of veterans who were fired due to mental health problems. The issue of homelessness in America is a problem that has raised national concern in the United States.
While in the streets, homeless people are exposed to numerous risk factors such as theft, murder, and sexual violence, among others. Additionally, most homeless people are exposed to innumerable drugs such as alcohol, marijuana, cocaine, and heroin. Eventually, most homeless populations end up as drug abusers, and to maintain their habit, they engage in violent crimes, which puts both them and the other population at risk (Alpert, 2020). Homeless people live in an unfriendly environment which exposes them to numerous stressors which affect their mental health (Alpert, 2020). Homelessness in the United States is a social problem since it impacts a large population, and as seen, it has numerous negative consequences on them, and it is an issue that needs to be addressed.
The topic is important to me since it will allow further research that will look at the causes of homelessness in the United States. This will help develop strategies and designs that can be used and implemented in addressing the social problem. This will be beneficial in finding efficient and long-lasting solutions to the problem of homelessness in America.
