Topic that was given:How will you use the information gained during this course? Be specific.
PART 1
When I first started this course I had no idea what it was going to be like and if it was going to be of any use to me. The thing is I am already using the information I have learned from the course in my current job and it will continue to be used as I go on with my future career in nursing. The knowledge I have gained on diseases, the signs and symptoms, and the treatments will be extremely helpful. At first I didn’t understand why there would be 4 mini essays every week, but those assignments helped me to do lots of research on diseases I had never heard of or would of never thought to research. I believe this course and the knowledge I have gained will allow me to become a better healthcare provider now and in the future.
PART 2
The 8 modules of the principles of health course have equipped me with basic knowledge about diseases affecting different body systems, causes, how these conditions present, and how to manage them. I would say that this couse is a basis of nursing practice as it has enabled me to build a strong background for a nurse’s key roles in healthcare practice, such as assessing patients’ health history, knowing the diagnostic tests, interpreting the diagnostic results, managing symptoms for acute and chronic conditions as well overseeing the overall health and disease prevention for patients and families. The foundational clinical knowledge acquired from this course would be specifically helpful in the future when I will be assessing patients for presenting illnesses and implementing treatment plans to address the patient’s needs. A nurse must have in-depth knowledge about acute and chronic diseases and how these conditions affect the human body before formulating a solution to these problems. Similarly, nurses need to have deep insights on medications and other interventions employed to address specific patient symptoms (Smolowitz et al., 2015).
Besides, the course has upgraded my critical thinking skills as far as different disease conditions are concerned. I believe these adept critical thinking skills will be useful in the analysis of a patient’s disease or injury and offer timely coping or preventive measures. In addition, the course has significantly improved my communications skills that I believe will be useful in completing my future academic programs and having a successful profession. Excellent written and oral communication skills with exceptional mastery of medical language are essential for the success of nurse students in their different academic programs and clinical practices (Kim & Han, 2016).
