A statement of the problem involves transforming a generalized problem into a targeted, well-defined problem; one that can be resolved through focused research. Defining the problem statement is significant in research because it helps the reader gain knowledge about the significance of the topic or subject and helps to identify the gap which you can fill by facilitating investigation on a specific topic. The introductory section gives the reader information about the need for study and its relevance to social work policy, practice and research.
Building on the information from the earlier assignments, students are to write a 3-page introduction section. This must include a clear statement of the problem that will serve as the basis for the introductory section of your final proposal. Make sure that the problem statement is simple, short and has a clear meaning. The introductory section should define the problem and confirm that it is related to the topic which you have chosen for investigation.

• How successful have these polices been for social work?
• How will this research proposal assist social work advocacy?
Relevancy to Social Work Practice (3 Paragraphs one half page)
• Name two existing theories related to this problem.
• How successful have these theories been for social work?
• How will this research proposal assist social work practice?
Relevancy to Social Work Research (3 Paragraphs one half page)
• Name two studies that have addressed this problem.
• What were the findings of the two studies?
• How were the findings beneficial for social work research?
