Learning Goal: I’m working on a article writing writing question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.Each week we will be examining a particular contemporary ethical issue through various readings and films (e.g., Immigration, Abortion, Environmental Ethics, etc.). Position papers will be your opportunity to synthesize everything you learned about in this class and whatever particular topic we are looking at for the week – the readings, the assigned movies, and my PowerPoint, if I include one.Part of your position paper should discuss 1. a very brief summary of the essential points of the films/readings and the various issues it raises 2. a brief discussion of the conflicting viewpoints on each side and 3. your particular position on the topic based upon your own critical readings and understanding of the overall subject. I expect you to reflect and carefully argue (using logic!) what your own position is on the case study we look at. This means I want you to explain to me how you arrived at your particular conclusion/position and what class material/arguments/ethical perspectives (religious or not) you drew from. Your position should be backed up using the ethical frameworks and terminology we have been learning about through the semester. There is no wrong or right answer, but I expect you to use sound logic to back up what you believe – you will get graded upon the soundness of your argument, not your positions.Your position papers should be 2-3 pages double-spaced, using a 12pt font. Besides the content, these papers will be graded on spelling, punctuation, grammar, coherence and clarity of written expression, and style, as well as content. I do not expect you to go beyond the material I’ve provided for each week, though some of you may want to if you need more context.
