Step 1
Read the following three scenarios, which are based on the scenarios and characters in West 47th Street, the film that you watched in Module 1. The time stamp for each scenario is provided so that you can go back and review the relevant section of the film, if needed.
Scenario 1 (7:42)
Frances (whose gender identity is female) is attending a meeting in which participants are asked to introduce themselves at the beginning. The meeting facilitator, seeing that Frances’ first name is Kenneth, nominates “Kenneth” to speak. After Frances’ explanation of address (Frances), the facilitator persists in using “Kenneth”, and Frances finally explains that the name Kenneth was “a mistake.” Imagine that Frances has later related this humiliating incident to you, her new social worker. How would you use empathy to build a stronger relationship with Frances?
Scenario 2 (9:25)
Zeinab (a depressed woman with a significant trauma history) is overjoyed yet a bit teary when being shown her new home, after a period of being homeless. She comments: “A place to live is too much…to make a person…be clean…and be happy. And it’s too hard for people living in the street. Very hard.” If you were the social worker present in this interaction, how would you express empathy while still returning the focus to the hopeful prospect of better times on the horizon?
Scenario 3 (15.42)
Fitzroy (a Jamaican man with schizophrenia) has ongoing ambivalence about taking psychiatric medications to control his symptoms. He suggests to his worker an alternative a folk remedy that is commonly used in Jamaica. He becomes increasingly irritated as he explains to the social worker that the pamphlet accompanying the folk medicine indicates that it can be used for “nerve” problems. How would you show cultural sensitivity and empathy for his perspective while still maintaining your own opinion that psychiatric medication is your preferred treatment option?
Step 2
From the scenarios presented in Step 1:
Select one of the clients.
Using Walsh (2013) Chapter 5 (attached) and other readings listed in Readings and Resources as a guide, post to the discussion thread a video recorded 30–60 second empathic response that you think might help engage and build a stronger relationship with that client

Read the attached news article about Baby T. (NOTE: this article is from the NY Times from the 1990s. Thus some of the policy elements and timelines are different now, BUT the essence of the story about the interpersonal circumstances of foster care and adoption persist today. This is why this story is still relevant today)
A. Summarize the main aspects of this case—why was Baby T removed from his biological mother? What has happened to him?
B. Describe the considerations in how the judge should decide if Baby T should be returned to his biological mother or not. Be sure to discuss why he should and should not be returned to his mother.
C. What resonates for you about this case? What do you notice about how race/ethnicity are discussed in this article?
2. Talking about Suicide (100 words approx) (Reading Attached)
Explore your own feelings about discussing suicide. Shea’s CASE approach requires that practitioners ask clients very direct questions to uncover possibly hidden plans regarding suicidal intent, such as “When you put the gun in your mouth, did you take off the safety?” In a post to the Discussion board, address your own comfort with asking clients questions about suicide, including how such discussions might affect you personally. Use at least one example from the multimedia exercise “The Suicidal Client” to illustrate your thoughts.

Introduction. Include a brief background on the topic being experimented on, its prevalence, and a discussion of why the topic is important. What purpose will the studied information be used to do? Who will the information bring awareness to? What group or branch?
• Address the presenting problem. (e.g., why do more females experience abuse than males in rural environments?) This must be a brief statement about the social problem. Who does it affect? How many people have been affected by the social problem?
• Address the significance of the problem and awareness needs to exist.
• Address who needs to be aware of the problem.
20
Literature Review. Include a review of current literature discussing the social problem. The literature should include 5 credible research sources reviewed from 2019 to the current year. What was discussed Nationally about the topic? What was discussed Statewide about the topic, and locally?
What was expected at that time verses what has been delivered.
• Address 5 credible sources from 2019 and current who have discussed concerns on the topic.
• Address national, state, and local discussions on the topic.
• Address who the sources interviewed and their findings about the social issue.
• Address what the policies, initiatives, etc. involved and how they were used to assist the people affected by the social problem.

• Address if there is a gap in policies, services, etc. to be amended or not.
• Address if you are seeking to observe whether the target population is accessing the services or not.
45
Methodology. Include your study design – quantitative or qualitative, etc. What procedures will you use? A random sample? What is the sample size (who, how many, and why)? By using this method what are you aiming to prove?
• Address the method of study studied. Qualitative or Quantitative (e.g. qualitative allows researchers to sit down face-to-face with individuals to hear their perspectives on the topic and write a description of it. The Quantitative allows researchers to gain information on individuals using survey instruments. By using survey instruments, researchers gain a numerical understanding of individuals and their social problems. How many people are or were impacted by the problem?
• Address a random sample designed and why it was chosen. (Interview at least 7 people and design a minimum of 10 questions pertaining to the topic).
• Address confidentiality and Informed Consent.
5
Research Findings.
• Address the findings. Include the questions – instrument used in the interview. What did you gather from your research? (e.g., domestic violence – how many participated in the research? What number of people experienced either physical, verbal, or mental abuse by their significant other? Compare one response against the other. Substance abuse – how many are affected by substance abuse? How often do they use drugs? What is the difference between male substance abusers and females?
• Address supports. What supports are available to the target individuals? Have they heard of any support? Or, have they utilized any support?
• Address the number of people who have versus those who are not using the services.

• Address how new ideas, methods, or factors could further shed light on this social problem.
10
Implications to Social Work Practice
• Address what needs to be brought to social work practice attention and why. Can awareness be brought to any other group or groups?
• Address what core values and or ethical principles elicit our services to help those who are vulnerable, and living in poverty, and why?
topic. Your paper should also include a title page, using the above information as requested. Do not include an agenda in your Rural Community Project Paper. Outline each major topic as such (Center and type in Bold 12-font Times New Roman). The body of your paper should not be in bold print, however, double-spaced is required. furthermore, page numbering is required. Students’ work should be their own and not someone else. Students must summarize literature researched on their topic using cognitive affective thinking skills. Although some direct quotations are allowed with appropriate pronunciation and citations, the students’ entire paper should not include the research material. Students should read and summarize the information in their own words. Students’ work that does not represent these methods will earn a Zero. The length of the rural community project paper, excluding the title and reference pages, should be at least a minimum of 10 pages. Students must include at least 5 scholarly references that are not copied or pasted. See the Rural Community Project and PowerPoint and Paper Rubric to write your paper. The rubric does not indicate references. However, a reference page should be included in the paper.

established a new fund allocation process for SEA Funds as a process to allocate funding had not been established. Please see the new SEA Proposal Request Form that reflects Merritt’s SEA Plan and Reporting requirements in the NOVA system.
If this is your first time submitting a request, I highly recommend that you review the request form in its entirety first, and then make a copy and prepare your responses on a separate word document. Once you have completed your responses, you can simply copy and paste into the form itself.
I have also attached the Budget Planning Template for your use in establishing your budget proposals. Please upload it into the form. If you prefer to use your own template, that’s fine as well, but a detailed budget spreadsheet must be submitted. As a gentle reminder, any proposals received without a budget spreadsheet are considered “incomplete” and will not be considered.
Please note that while this is a hard deadline (by necessity as we are trying to spend out prior year funds), please note that this will not be your only opportunity to submit a proposal for SEA funding, as we will likely be requesting proposals for funding annually.

For this assignment, you will be using JASP and a dataset to run frequencies and a crosstabulation. The dataset is entitled GSS2018_Demo.csv and can be downloaded by clicking here. Download here.Open this document with ReadSpeaker docReaderSave the file in your Research II foler.
To download the JASP Statistics program, go to: https://jasp-stats.org/Links to an external site.
This assignment will help prepare you to carry out Program-Level Evaluation Milestone 4 (Analysis of Agency Data). Instructions are below.
A) Frequencies
Frequency distributions tell us the number and percentage of the attributes of a variable. For example, for the variable Race, it might tell us the number and percentage of White, African American, and other groups. To run a frequency distribution using data from a dataset:
1. View the video and transcript on Frequencies with JASP under the Module 12 Readings and Resources
2. Open JASP and then click on the three vertical bars on the top left to open a file. Search on your computer for the GSS2018_Demo.csv file.
3. Open the file.
4. Click on “Descriptives,
5. Choose “Sex” and move it to the “Variables” box by first highlighting it, then clicking on the right arrow.
6. Scroll down and click on the box that says,”Frequency Tables (nominal and ordinal variables)
7. To the right of that you will see the Results.
8. What is the number and percentage of male and female respondent? What is the total number of cases?
9. You can copy and paste your results into a Word doc.
B) Descriptives
Descriptives summarize interval and ratio level data by telling us things such as the mean and standard deviation of a variable such as age, income, or education. To run a descriptive from the dataset:
1. View the video and transcript on Descriptives with JASP under the Module 12 Readings and Resources
2. Open JASP and then click on the three vertical bars on the top left to open a file. Search on your computer for the GSS2018_Demo.csv file.
3. Open the file.
.4. Click on “Descriptives,
5. Choose “Age” and move it to the “Variables” box by clicking on the right arrow.
6. To the right of that you will see the Results.
7. What is the mean age of the respondents? What is the standard deviation?
8. You can copy and paste your results into a Word doc.
C) Crosstabulations
Crosstabulations are two (or more) frequency distributions combined. They tell us the differences in the distributions of two (or more) variables and whether the differences we see are statistically significant by performing a chi-square test. We will again be using the same dataset. To conduct the crosstab:
1. View the video and transcript on Chi-square with JASP under the Module 12 Readings and Resources.
2. Open JASP and then click on the three vertical bars on the top left to open a file. Search on your computer for the GSS2018_Demo.csv file.
3. Open the file.
4. Click on “Frequencies” at the top of the screen, then “Contingency Tables”
5. Choose “Emoprobs” for Rows by highlighting it and then moving it to the Rows box by clicking on the right arrow. “Emoprobs” is the variable name for the question, “In the past 7 days, how often have you been bothered by emotional problems?”
6. Choose “Sex” for the columns by highlighting it and then moving it to the Columns box by clicking on the right arrow.
7. Scroll down and click on “Statistics”. Make sure the chi-square box (x2) is checked
8. Scroll down and click on “Cells”. Under “Percentages” click “Column.
9. The results can be seen in the Results box to the right.
10. To view it full-screen, click on the left-facing arrow
11. What percentage of men compared to women say that they “Sometimes” or “Often” have been bothered by emotional problems in the last seven days?
12. What is the p-value? Is it statistically significant?
13. Copy and paste the results into a Word doc
D) Deliverables
Include your frequency table, descriptive table, and crosstab table. Briefly answer the following questions:
Number and frequency of males and females
Mean and standard deviation of participants age
Percentage of males vs females who “sometimes” or “often” had emotional problems in the last 7 days whether findings are statistically significant, and p-value.

PAPER INTRUCTIONS
1. please agree with me which social work theory you will apply before writing.
2. You should use 2 social work textbooks to explain the theory you will use
3) use in total 5 social work textbooks or journal only to reference.
CASE SCENARIO
Hasan
In your case allocation meeting the team is discussed a new referral about a well-known family who have been referred several times over the past four years. You are asked to take on responsibility for the family as a social worker in the team. Hasan is a 27-year-old Bangladeshi Muslim man who has been living in the UK since the age of 14. He has a history of mental health problems, which date back to his late teens when his father died. He receives support from a local mental health team and sees a Community Psychiatric Nurse (CPN) on occasion. One year ago, Hasan travelled to Bangladesh where he and his current wife were married. His wife has recently given birth to a healthy baby girl and there are now six members of the family sharing the 3-bedroom council flat (Hasan’s mother and younger sisters, aged of 12 and 22, comprise the other 3). Hasan is not currently working and receives benefits. His 22-year-old younger sister, Sumi, is the only member of the family who is employed, and she is also Hasan’s carer. Sumi has come into your social work office today and expressed the following concerns:
● Hasan has been complaining that his family do not respect him as the head of the family and that they are not devout enough in their religious practice.
● Lately, Hasan has been waking up in the middle of the night and leaving the flat to go to the Mosque.
● Hasan has, on at least one occasion, threatened Sumi with physical violence.
Tell the story of how your work with Hassan and his family unfolds, showing how you use theory to help you in your work.
What needs to be included in a scenario write-up. Please answer the question as a heading below.
Tell the story using the following headings in the write-up:
■ What happens next?
■ What is the social worker’s analysis?
■ What social work theory is the social worker applying and why?
■ Explain the theory.
■ What does literature (referenced) say about that theory?
■ Tell the story of the practicalities of how the social worker uses theory in their work with the people in the scenario.
■ Complete the story.
