the authors rely on rhetorical strategies to persuade their readers to consider their claims. Using both readings, and determine which author uses rhetorical strategies more effectively and why. In a 900-1500 word essay, compare and contrast the two works. Identify specific rhetorical devices in each text, and analyze how effectively the writers use these rhetorical devices to support their overall argument and influence their readers. Your thesis statement should be your claim about which of the two arguments is more convincing (which author uses rhetorical strategies more effectively and why). While you may address the writer’s purpose, audience, and message, be sure to focus specifically on the rhetorical strategies in each.
Consider your options for organization (develop each paragraph fully by including support and your commentary):
– Focus each body paragraph on a rhetorical strategy that appears in both texts. Argue that the strategy works more effectively in the more persuasive text and analyze how.
– Recognize a strength in the weaker text but focus on and emphasize a strength in the one you claim is the more persuasive text (this is a way to include counter arguments—this other text is good/persuasive, but the one you’ve chosen is better/more persuasive).
– Focus on a thematic link shared by both and argue that the author’s use of rhetorical devices make the text you’ve chosen more persuasive and convincing.
Required:
Include a clear thesis statement—one that conveys your interpretive claim about the subject
Include analysis of at least two of the optional works
Integrate quotations from the texts, in MLA format, into your essay
Be sure to avoid the following common pitfalls:
– Avoid summarizing the texts (assume your reader is familiar with the texts). There is no need to re-tell, no need to summarize the texts. Instead, comment on the texts. Focus on providing your thinking, your analysis of how the writer uses rhetorical devices to persuade you.
– Avoid just listing the rhetorical devices you see in each. Instead, be sure to connect each one you identify to your thesis and analyze how it is working.
– Avoid making the subject of the texts your main focus. Instead, your main focus should be how the writer’s use of rhetorical strategies works to persuade you.

The four principles of biomedical ethics, especially in the context of bioethics in the United States, have often been critiqued for raising the principle of autonomy to the highest place, such that it trumps all other principles or values. Compare and contrast informative and persuasive reports

Propose two different models that explain how the auroraB kinase is turned off when
amphitellic microtubule attachment is achieved. By “turned off” I mean that it stops
phosphorylating NDC80 and other kinetochore microtubule binding proteins.
Unphosphorylated NDC80 has a slower off rate from microtubules than phosphorylated
NDC80 so turning off auroraB stabilizes correct microtubule attachments. Your models
do not have to be original. You can use models shown in Marsoner et al. but you may
use ideas from other papers or come up with your own original idea. Original cartoon
drawings are encouraged. Please do not screen shot Fig 5 into your paper. Carefully
explain how your two models differ from each other and explain clearly whether they are
mutually exclusive or not. Citations for statements of fact in section 1 can be review
articles or primary research papers but cannot by websites or class lectures. 20 pts. 10 pts
for each model. If a model is incomplete, eg. CPC translocates from the outer
kinetochore to the inner centromere without suggesting how this only happens under
tension, 6/10 for that model.
2- Review the published literature that supports each model. In this section, clearly
describe each experiment and result and how the result supports one model. For each
result, clearly explain whether the result supports one model and excludes the other
model or if it only addresses one model. For section 2, cite only original research
articles, not review articles. You may cite experiments from Marsoner et al. as well as
any other paper you find. 20 pts. 10 pts/model
3- Propose one new experiment that would test model 1 and one new experiment that
would test model 2. Marsoner et al. make it very clear that your models can likely only
be tested in very specific genetic backgrounds. Clearly explain the genetic background
for each experiment.
20 points. 10 pts for experiment testing each model.
Your paper will be 3 to 5 pages of 12 pt font, single spaced, not including references or
cartoon drawings.
Spelling and grammar are expected to be perfect. All statements of fact in section

In this course you will conduct a mini study. You will survey 50 people through any method you choose to find out information on your topic. You will then calculate the statistics for your data. It is important to remember your mini study should use quantitative values since this is a statistics course so you can complete the required calculations. When you pick a topic, make sure it is something people are comfortable answering and that you only use adults.
