Write a one-page Peer Review of the Case Study below:
The initiative that I chose for this discussion from the Health People 2030 Framework is “Increase the proportion of adults who get screened for colorectal cancer”. This appealed to me because my mother died of colon cancer, and so did my maternal grandfather. Neither family member had a cancer screen, and both might have lived much longer had they been properly screened and treated early.
Colon cancer is the third most common cancer diagnosis in the U.S. and mostly affects adults and older adults, mainly those 50 and older, but rates are rising in younger people (Healthy People, 2030). According to the Healthy People data, “58.7 percent of adults aged 45 to 75 years received a colorectal cancer screening based on the most recent guidelines in 2021” (Healthy People, 2030). Colon cancer is a common illness and can be treated and cured if caught in the early stages; a colon polyp is typically how colon cancer begins, and it is estimated that it takes about 10 years for a polyp to become a cancer tumor. I’m at high risk for developing colon cancer due to my family history, so I have already had my first colonoscopy and have been trying to lead a healthy lifestyle to try to mitigate my risk.
Kearney-Nunnery states that primary prevention measures are actions taken to avoid illness; for example, a healthy diet or an exercise program (Kearney-Nunnery, 2020). Secondary prevention refers to screening for early detection of a problem (Kearney-Nunnery, 2020). An example of this would be providing patients with educational material about colon cancer. Another would be taking an accurate health history to understand the patients level of risk for cancer and ordering the appropriate tests for screening, such as colonoscopy or a fecal occult stool test.

I wrote some details I would like included in essay on how I’ve started in healthcare. Also include my future long term goals, which is to get my Masters in nursing. “There’s several reasons why I am ready to enter the nursing profession. I have been a healthcare professional for 13 years. My career started as a National Registered Emergency Medical Technician in 2011, and has been until these past two years that I’ve transferred from pre-hospital care to in-hospital care as an Emergency Department Technician. I’m ready to continue my career goals and dreams to become a nurse. Becoming a nurse to me is very important because growing up with a mother who has Lupus and a lot of other health concerns, I understand the importance of providing care with genuine passion. Being a passionate person to me comes naturally. Now as a tech I go above and beyond for every patient that walks in the double doors. I know they’re at their worst and came in for help. why should Uhealth invest in me?
Obtaining my DNP is the highest level of scientific nursing expertise. A great fit for me at UHealth as my aspiration is to continue at the U and obtaining my DNP will hopefully open a variety of possibilities such as in education or in leadership. The Uhealth culture is about being innovative and being the best version of ourselves. Working at the U doesn’t feel like a job but rather, it gives me a sense of purpose and progress at work. I have been a Registered Nurse for 7 years and enjoy greatly being part of the 9North team, not only because of my great colleagues but the multidisciplinary team and the care we give to our patients. For part 3 the program I suggest is preventive screening for females in my community specially ones who comes newly to the country. Purpose: early prevention and screening purposes to detect/treat any disease. Population it serves: females from 18 years till menopause. Things included: mammogram referral and book appt, pap referral and book appt, education about breast cancer and self breast exam, std testing, std education, birth controls …etc
Availability, affordability, and accessibility: to all females with and without ins in collaboration with another social worker, free clinics, and organizations to provide the service.
