Thoroughly read Chap. 4 and the posted articles on the Syllabus to prepare for our class session on Thursday regarding hiring, employment, and labor relations. Then post a very specific, detailed discussion in your own words (no quotes) to answer ONE of the following three questions below in this Forum (be sure to identify the question you select and respond to):
Q1: What types of questions would you ask job applicants during an interview to understand their ethics and integrity? List three questions you would include in the interview that will assist you in identifying these characteristics. How would you know they are being truthful, and that they will positively contribute to your workplace ethics?
Q2: How do the following ‘tools’ seem to assist companies in selecting ethical job candidates who seem to value integrity: polygraph test, reference checks, and personality tests? Which, if any, do you prefer or would not use, and why? Does a labor union organization impact your choice of tools? Why?
Q3: What does a company’s job-screening process tell you about their company ethics, importance of business integrity, and corporate compliance culture (give an example using a SHRM resource)? What aspects of job-screening (including AI) do you consider ‘unethical’ and why (cite an ethical theory to support your response)?
Grade points determined based on: clarity of response to question, and using our readings as research references.
Note: Employer Sought Skills handout is listed on our Canvas page for fun … we will talk more about it in class.
During class, we will also talk about AI & employment/hiring, including an exercise to find a business or organization hiring “mishap” (one that no one has selected for discussion in the Forum) to analyze in class on Thursday.

Watch the Pinkberry Case StudyLinks to an external site. video from the Learn section this week.
Determine the target market for Pinkberry using ALL four (4) bases of segmentation to describe the buyer persona.
(Note: As you might recall from your Week 1 reading in Chapter 10 of The New Rules of Marketing and PR, a buyer persona is a short biography of a typical customer.)
Don’t fall into the trap of thinking that a target market can be everyone! One of the best ways to overcome this trap is to think of your target market as an individual rather than a group. Here is a very simple buyer persona exercise that you will find helpful. And this is a great chance to be creative!
Visualize a specific person that you think is the Pinkberry target customer. In terms of our bases of segmentation, where does this person live? Where else could they live beyond just West Hollywood, CA? Are they in an urban environment, the suburbs, or way out in the country?
Now describe that person in terms of their demographic characteristics. How old are they? What gender are they? Where are they in their family life cycle? What is their education level? What do they do for a living, etc.?
Move on to the psychological or psychographic profile of the person you are visualizing. What are their hobbies, lifestyle, values, and attitudes? What do they hold important to them? One of the areas to look at might be the VALS research. This may help you identify more about this specific person from the inside out.
Finally, with this same person in your head, how can you describe them behaviorally? Do they eat frozen yogurt? Do they eat frozen yogurt from a competitor? Have they never eaten frozen yogurt before?
Why is it important to understand your buyer’s needs and mindset when developing a marketing strategy?
Once you go through this mental exercise of visualizing your specific customer, it will be easier to use the bases of segmentation to create your buyer persona.

1. We each see life through our own filter, so do we each hold an Unconscious Bias against other Generations?  If so, why?  And, does this bias help us or hurt us in the workplace?
2. Do you believe the description given for your generation is accurate? Please state the evidence that supports your answer.
3.  Are personal values, perspectives and behaviors influenced more by generational cohort (peers) or by parents, extended family members and teachers who hail from different generations?

For this week’s discussion forum, I would like for you to do a google search on “preparedness and X” where X is your local jurisdiction. So for example, I would search “preparedness” and “Orlando.” Write your post this week about the resources you find,  and be sure to reference the text and at least one of the videos in your post.

ASSIGNMENT SIX
Question One: In recent years, several nationally known healthcare providers have established satellite facilities a great distance from their main clinic locations. The Mayo Clinic of Rochester, Minnesota, has opened facilities in Arizona, Florida, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Minnesota as well as an office for referrals in Mexico City. The Cleveland Clinic has opened a Brain Institute in Nevada, a facility in Florida, and a hospital in Abu Dhabi and a recently opened hospital in London. As the chapter also described, the Hospital for Special Surgery has opened multiple locations beyond its sole location in midtown Manhattan with a separate hospital in Florida. Explain the changes in distribution intensity these actions represent. Provide illustrations
Questions Two: In the discussion on emotions in advertising, an advertisement from 2014 was highlighted that did not directly pertain to health care. What was it particularly about this advertisement that leads to positive feelings? In what way might a healthcare organization similarly capitalize on such an approach? In considering your answer, look at this advertisement by the Cleveland Clinic (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDDWvj_q-o8). This advertisement is one of a series that the Cleveland Clinic produced. Who is the market for this ad in the campaign? Does it engender the same emotional response?REQUIREMENTS: (non-compliance will result in Zero credit)

Question One: Having recently graduated from an evening MBA program where you worked closely with a team of other MBA students throughout your program, you and two other graduates spent hours together and developed a wellness tracker app that you have pretested with consumers. It tracks a person’s daily activities, can link them with video to a personal coach, provides regular updates on their fitness goals, and provides rewards to retailers in their area. You have also gotten initial interest from insurance companies as well as small and medium-sized employers as a possible way to link with their health plans to reduce cost if their employees participate. An initial program you have run in a pilot test is promising in early results. Now as you and your partners are considering going for more venture money, you also realize that to be successful a key issue to assess is how to enter the market and where you would be in the life cycle and what challenge that might present. Provide illustrations.
Question Two: Two medical organizations have recently examined their cost structures. The first group is a radiology practice with a significant investment in diagnostic-imaging equipment. The second group is a single-specialty pediatric practice. The cost analysis reveals the following distribution:
Explain the implications of these differing cost structures of each medical group in terms of contracting with managed care organizations.
