Imagine – You are the CEO or the Spokesperson of a company that is tasked with informing all employees that no one can take vacation for the next 12 months. Compose your statement, keep in mind your mode of delivery, tone and your audience. Your goal is to decrease the amount of push-back/protest that is inevitable…
Your written statement must take form of a fully composed email or letter – please research the proper heading of a letter and email – Use the World Wide Web.
Be as creative as you desire with the company’s name, logo, reason for vacation pause and the company’s plan to make concessions for employees. Remember to be realistic.

Below are 4 common ways to compose a Thesis Statement. Read each Thesis, they all are examples for the same topic. The instructions to follow are at the end.
1. Question
Though we are bombarded with the positive medical attributes of marijuana, why does resistance of legalization exist?
2. Fact
World renown scientists have concluded through various studies that marijuana contains healing attributes but like all drug classifications, there is a need for regulation and oversight.
3. Statement
Its not man made so its good for us. Everyone knows when mankind begin to intervene, things become less effective with all kinds of side effects like leaking bowels.
4. Quote
“Moderation is the key with consuming anything. But I have never heard of any individual overdosing on the green stuff” (Smith 12)
*Pick any topic and provide 4 different Thesis Statements as I have done above for the topic “Marijuana”*

. Please find a random image (Internet), it can not be an image of a person. Using a cluster to generate symbols, determine what your image can possibly symbolize. Choose one of those clustered symbols and compose a fully developed paragraph explaining your symbol.
For example- if my image was a box of crayons and from my cluster, I came up with Childhood, Creativity, Diversity and Freeing as my symbols. From the 4 generated symbols, I chose to compose my paragrapgh on Diversity. My paragraph would be on Diversity not a box of crayons.
2. You must submit the cluster and paragraph, please state what your image is so that I will have a reference point (if you decide not to attach your image).
For this course, a paragraph is 5-7 sentences.

There will be a biographical lecture for each author (so you don’t have to spend time reading their bios and can just move on with their writings). There is a questionnaire associated with each reading and one of the first questions asks about the author. These short videos will help you answer that question, although you can always do the readings on your own.

Think of this videoLinks to an external site. as telling a story and/or passing some sort of social commentary. In the form of a video blog, discuss who are the heroes, villains, and victims of this story? Who are we encouraged to be annoyed/frustrated with and why? Who are we encouraged to empathize with and why? What have they done to earn our empathy?
The video parodies a famous Stevie Wonder song from the 1980s: I Just Called To Say I Love You.
Both versions imagine a world where romantic relationships are mediated, but not necessarily with the same degree of pessimism. How does the parody use the original song to say something about both past and present romantic relationships and the roles technology play in sustaining/strengthening/undermining them? Lastly, do you agree/disagree with the video’s message about how digital tools and social media platforms affect relationships?

Several major Native American writers are either discussed or interviewed in the video. Choose one of them and do some research on that writer. Who is this writer? What are their major literary contributions? Why are they included in this video? Identify something significant from the video that centers on this writer and explain it as you would to someone who hasn’t seen the video.
According to the video, of what significance were the two World Wars for Native Americans?
Paula Gunn Allen also appears regularly in the video. Do some research on her. Who was she? Why is she included as an expert? What are her major literary contributions? Identify one major point that she makes in the video and explain it as you would to someone who hasn’t seen the video.
After finishing the video and taking some time to think, what do you think is the most important message of the video? What is your analysis of that message?

write at least two pages in response to this question:
In Native Voices, there is a fascinating quote that says, “We don’t have anything if we don’t have the stories.” What do you think that means? Do you agree? Why? Why not?
Your journal should be a minimum of two pages, double-spaced. Follow MLA formatting guidelines (header, page number, title).
All sources you use be acknowledged clearly within your writing wherever you paraphrase, summarize, or quote them; furthermore, I expect all direct quotes to be placed in quotation marks. Use MLA format.
Include a Works Cited page following MLA guidelines.

When you think of the American Dream, what do you think of? For some, John Mellencamp’s “Little Pink Houses” exemplifies many of the ideals related to the American Dream. As you watch the video below, think about the images presented both in the song lyrics and the video. How do these images relate to your understanding of the American Dream?

What author or authors are you interested in exploring in your research paper? Do you know anything about these authors? A good first step would be to read the Wikipedia article on the author or authors you are thinking about, just to get a sense of the kinds of things you might talk about.
You could also write about themes that you are interested in exploring, and your classmates and I can help you brainstorm authors that you might be interested in.
Do you think you will write a textual analysis or a contextual analysis for this paper? (Your paper will likely include both elements, but will lean more heavily in one direction). Why are you leaning in this direction?
