To the writer: This is a “Packback Assignment” where you must first ask an “intriguing question (not super long, for this is your thesis statement) about what you have researched and provide supportive evidence or details from that research and how design components affect each other. Since I am an engineer, it could be based on engineering or whichever subject area the writer chooses to write about. Please check grammar, spelling, and sentence structure, and check the document for plagiarism, as PackBack will reject the writing. Packback also requires that we bold and italicize in various areas and provide a graphical picture or chart that would qualify as a media post.
Assignment:
Chapter 5 of the textbook “Organization Development and Change” discusses the process of understanding the organization and helping managers assess where change is needed either to take advantage of an opportunity (development) or to protect from threats (problems). The book describes three potential levels of diagnosis, the organization, the group and the individual. Further, the book uses an open systems model to describe organizations and each of these levels. An open systems model describes the inputs, the transformation process, the outputs and how it is all influenced by the environment and how the environment’s reactions to the outputs provides feedback to the organizational system. The transformation process has been characterized in the book as the design component. Choose any design component at any level of interest to you, and do some research on that component. Then consider how changing that component would change the whole and how that would impact a change effort.
For example, a design component at the group level is task structure. As an engineer, for example, how a task is structured is important to the outcome of your work. So do some additional reading on some of the ways that task structure is conceptualized. Then think about the ways that a change in task structure might affect the other design components (goal clarity, team functioning, group composition and group norms). Then further think about how that change might make group level change easier or more difficult.

Goal: Create a reflective 10 slide presentation that briefly summarizes what you have learned throughout this course.
Instructions:
Throughout the course, you have encountered definitions and theories related to leadership. You have also examined your organization and leaders through the Kouzes and Posner model and other relevant literature. As a final assignment, prepare a learning summary that incorporates the following:
1. Reflect on your definition of leadership. Has it changed? What has influenced the change or kept it the same? Reflect on 1-2 “Aha!” moments related to your eight-week study during this course.
2. What impact does the encounter with theoretical material have on your view of leadership relevant to your work in your organization?
3. What three recommendations do you propose for new or experienced leaders based on what you have assimilated into your understanding through this course.
4. Support your assertions, views, and recommendations with scholarly research. Note that four (4) outside scholarly sources are the minimum (your course textbook does not count).

There are many different models that are used to explain the process of organizational change. As a leader, your perspective on how the organization changes can impact the success of the change. You must remember that for an organization to make a change, individuals within the organization must transition from their current behavior to a new behavior. As a leader, your job is to help them understand why they need to change and how they can change.
With this in mind, we are going to explore the issues associated with culture and leading organizational change.
Choose a change that you would like to lead in your current organization or in another organization that you are involved with.
Describe the change and why you think it needs to change.
Which model of organizational change would help you to move forward with this change?
What challenges would you face at the individual and team level?
What guidelines would you combine with the model of organizational change you have chosen to successfully lead this change?
How would you take steps to create a culture that embraces change? [MO 1.1, 1.3, & 1.4]
Instructions to Learners
Locate and research at least two sources to discover additional information about your topic choice. Use your text to create a foundation for the theory. This must be a concise evaluation of the case, so provide information on your understanding of the application of theory to the marketing choices.
Develop your analysis using the four following sections:
Section 1: Introduction and situational analysis: Describe the change model(s), giving appropriate background information, that you would incorporate into a change initiative. This is also where you do your situational analysis – identifying factors related to the individual(s) involved (consider the readings from this module), company and managerial practices and policies, external factors such as economic pressure, and any other aspects of the situation that you believe helped create the current situation and affect the leader’s perspective.
Section 2: Analysis using change theory: Consider the theories that are appropriate in the chapters assigned to this module. Use those theories to analyze the situation you have defined and create a clear foundation for your view of the situation. Your opinions are important and useful but not sufficient to make a case for a specific course of action. The theory, models, and concepts that you find in your readings are what you must use to create a valid argument for your suggested course of action.
Section 3: Conclusion and recommendations: Up to now, you have been analyzing and comparing options. Here is where you pull together the different threads of your analysis and determine a course of action. Also, make recommendations about what the company should do in the future. Make sure your justifications clearly flow from your analysis. Make managerial and policy recommendations for future change endeavors.
Section 4: References: List at least two sources (in addition to the sources provided in the module and your text) where you located additional information to support your views.
General guidance: Include a title page, and label the four sections. Your paper should be 3-5 pages in length, not including the title and reference pages. Your paper and citations should be in APA Style. Double space your paper, use Times New Roman, 12-point font, with one-inch margins.

Action research is the process of inquiry that is used to assist an individual or organization in solving a problem or improving a situation. For each scenario below, think about the reasons why things did not work out well for the company and more specifically, think about action research in terms of developing a plan for action.
Your task for this assignment is to explain what steps the organization should take by reviewing the standard action research and organizational development steps covered in the background materials. Try to assess which key step is missing in the scenario below.
Then write a 4- to 5-page paper using three scholarly sources from the required and optional readings list addressing the following for the scenario below:
The Perils of XYZ Widget Company
Sales have gone down at the XYZ Widget Company and nobody in the organization, including the CEO, seems to know why. They decide to hire you, an organizational development consultant, to do some action research. You and the CEO spend a lot of time discussing how to proceed and create a contract. The contract specifies that you will limit the scope to finding factors that led to the decrease in sales, come up with a plan of action within one month, and answer the following questions using the background data from the scenario below.
Scenario:
XYZ Widget Company has lost 20% of its market share over the past two years resulting in a sales loss of 1.5 million in 2017 and 2 million in 2018 for a total of $3.5 million. Each widget costs the consumer $29.99 to purchase, and the average customer will purchase three widgets annually. Each XYZ widget is produced for $8 dollars and is of higher quality than the competition.
One competitor (Jim’s Widgets) in the widget industry with a similar product has increased market share by 12% due to a lower production cost of $4 per unit and price to the consumer of $9.99.
The CEO of XYZ Widget Company is reluctant to lower prices and has had to eliminate commissions and bonuses of sales employees who exceed goals. In addition, seven of the 21-member sales team were laid off for non-performance of sales goals.
Develop an Action Research Strategy Plan covering the following Action Research Phases in a report to the CEO.
Data gathering and Diagnosis
Feedback
Planning Change
Intervention
Evaluation
What are the reasons behind the decrease in sales?
What actions or strategy (data/sales/changes) should be taken to turn sales around and regain market share?
What strategy should be taken to increase employee morale?
How long should this strategy take to complete?

Like many airlines around the world, leading Australian airline Qantas is facing

Like many airlines around the world, leading Australian airline Qantas is facing very difficult times in spite of having a 65% market share in its home market of Australia. Due to rising fuel costs and a slow world economy, Qantas has recently been losing money and their CEO Alan Joyce has some tough choices to make.
One difficult decision for Joyce is whether or not to sell Qantas’ frequent flyer program. It may seem odd for an airline to sell its frequent flyer program, but Qantas’ program is much more than just an airline reward program. Members of this program can gain points not only by flying on Qantas but also through other means such as shopping at one of Qantas’ corporate partners or using one of their credit cards. Points can be redeemed not only with free flights, but also with products from numerous retailers. Over 10 million Australians belong to this rewards program, almost half of the population.
The frequent flyer program is Qantas’ most valuable asset and a sale of this program would help Qantas get out of its current financial troubles. However, selling the program would also mean allowing another company to have access to Qantas most loyal customers including their business class and first class customers. In the long-run, there is potential the sale could backfire and would not be wise.
Do some research on CEO Joyce’s current choice of whether or not to sell their frequent flyer program, and also thoroughly review the background materials on intuitive versus rational decision-making including Buhler (2001) and Kourdi (2011). Your assignment will be to apply the background materials concepts to Joyce’s current big decision.
Some specific articles on Qantas to get you started:

Ironside, R. (2014, Aug 15). Qantas warned to ground plans to sell frequent flyer program. The Gold Coast Bulletin [Proquest]
Gilder, P. (2014, Mar 29). Loyalty future cloudy. The Gold Coast Bulletin [Proquest]

Case Assignment
Once you have finished reading about Qantas and reviewing the background materials including Buhler (2001) and Kourdi (2003), write a 4- to 5-page paper addressing the following questions:
Is the decision whether or not to sell Qantas’ frequent flyer program a strategic or operational decision? Is it a programmed or non-programmed decision? Explain your answer using references to Buhler (2001) or Kourdi (2003).
Suppose Alan Joyce decides to take a rational approach to the decision whether or not to sell the frequent flyer program. List a step-by-step approach you would recommend, and include specifics regarding what kind of information or choices should be considered at each step. Do not just list the steps, give detail at each step and use material both from your research on Qantas and from Buhler (2001) or Kourdi (2003) to come up with these steps.
Joyce has been the CEO of Qantas for six years and is an experienced airline executive. Given his experience, do you recommend Joyce use a rational or intuitive approach to this decision? If there is a new CEO who comes from another industry and does not have this airline experience, would you recommend they use a rational or intuitive approach? Explain your reasoning, and make references to Buhler (2001) or Kourdi (2003) as appropriate.
