Instructions: Read the poem The Blind Men and the Elephant below, while reading I want you to focus your thoughts on two specific issues: 1) what does this poem mean and 2) what does it have to do with the study of leadership. After you have come to a conclusion, in no less than 150 words share your initial response in a post to the discussion.
The Blind Men and the Elephant
American poet John Godfrey Saxe (1816-1887) based the following poem
on a fable which was told in India many years ago.
It was six men of Indostan / To learning much inclined,
Who went to see the elephant / (Though all of them were blind),
That each by observation / Might satisfy his mind.
The First approached the Elephant / And happening to fall
Against his broad and sturdy side, / At once began to bawl;
“God bless me! But this elephant / Is nothing but a wall!”
The Second, feeling of the tusk, / Cried “Ho! What have we here
So very round and smooth and sharp! / To me ‘tis mighty clear
This wonder of an Elephant / Is very like a spear!”
The Third approached the animal, / And happening to take
The squirming trunk within his hands, / Thus boldly up and spake;
“I see,” quoth he, “the elephant / Is very like a snake!”
The Fourth reached out his eager hand, / And felt about the knee:
“What most this wondrous beast is like / Is mighty plain,” quoth he;
“’Tis clear enough the elephant / Is very like a tree.”
The Fifth, who chanced to touch the ear, / Said, “E’en the blindest man
Can tell what this resembles most; / Deny the fact who can,
This marvel of an elephant / Is very like a fan!”
The Sixth no sooner had begun / About the beast to grope,
Than, seizing on the swinging tail / That fell within his scope,
“I see,” quoth he, “the elephant / Is very like a rope!”
And so these men of Indostan / Disputed loud and long,
Each in his own opinion / Exceeding stiff and strong,
Though each was partly in the right, / And all were in the wrong!
So, oft in theologic wars /
The disputants, I ween
Rail on in utter ignorance /
Of what each other mean,
And prate about an elephant /
Not one of them has seen!

Chapter 6 of the Cummings, T.G., Worley, 2019 – Organization Development and Change, 11th Ed textbook provides a summary overview of the ways in which a change agent or organizational development consultant can collect data about an organization. Ideally, data collection is intended to help identify and clarify a problem that needs to be addressed for continued organizational performance. One method of collecting data is the very familiar survey. I would like you (The Writer) to design your own survey instrument. Think of a situation at work (NASA Johnson Space Center Mission Operations, or Engineering Division) or at school (The University of Houston) that you think needs to change and design a data collection survey that would help you understand the problem. The entire design is up to you. Your discussion should briefly describe the situation and why it needs to change. You should identify what populations should be sampled and you should provide the questions you will ask. The survey has to have at least 5 questions, but no more than 10. This exercise aims to get a feel for how difficult it is to design a survey instrument that can uncover useful information about an organizational problem.

While learning about the many different theories of leadership this semester, our theme will be to challenge you to read critically, think critically, and lead critically. This assignment will be a two-page-paper where you will explain what you think it means to read, think, and lead critically. Then, elaborate how you feel you currently utilize these skills, how you will demonstrate these skills during the semester, and how you plan on applying these skills to your learning and leadership in your organizations and career in the future.

Each student must complete the address of at least one of the variables in your research and develop a literature review to discuss with your team members.
Answer the following questions in the group.
1. Did each student use at least three academic journals only in the review of the variable?
2. Did the student paraphrase the work in the literature review? If not how did you advise the student to correct the error?
3. Did the student cite the sources in the APA format?
4. Did the student use the format that was provided in class.
See the attachment for an example.
Also provide one report for the team on what you learned from the experience. It will be graded and a grade will be assigned to each member of the group. At least three paragraphs to address each member of the team.

Instructions: Students will get a general sense of how to build the content for the research design section of the paper. Key concepts to address include the type of data to be used (qualitative and quantitative), the scope of the study (14 weeks), Type of study (cross-sectional), Survey used (Liker Type survey), sample size (n=50), data to be used and sources that will provide content for the study.
Review the Youtube Video and respond to the questions (although the reference here is on sociological research, the same scientific method is applied and will provide some direction for students in the capstone class.
Questions.
1). Why is important to clearly identify and discuss your sample (n) in a study? (students must use a sample size of 50 or more in the study.
2). How effective is a study when both qualitative and quantitative study is used in the investigation? Explain.
3). Describe a Likert Scale and discuss why it is commonly used in research. Explain. (students will be using a 5 point Likert scale in their study (Strongly agrree 5, agree 4, neutral 2, disagree 2, strongly disagree 1}.
4). Why is it important to describe the sample (n=50 or more) that is used in a research study? Explain.

Hi — please read Chapter 12 of the book (Leedy, P. &. Ormond (2021). PRACTICAL RESEARCH: Planning and Design . London: Pearson Education Limited, 12th Edition) and fulfill the order. Students will have to add this section to the research design section of the report that they have already addressed
Method (refer to class notes)
1. Students must discuss the types data that is used in the study (qualitative and quantitative). They must also use the research terms that were reviewed in class – cross-sectional study, random sampling technique, design phases,
2. Illustrate and discuss the phases in your research paper.
Thanks.

To the writer: This is a “Packback Assignment” where you must first ask an “intriguing question (not super long, for this is your thesis statement) about what you have researched and provide supportive evidence or details from that research and how design components affect each other. Since I am an engineer, it could be based on engineering or whichever subject area the writer chooses to write about. Please check grammar, spelling, and sentence structure, and check the document for plagiarism, as PackBack will reject the writing. Packback also requires that we bold and italicize in various areas and provide a graphical picture or chart that would qualify as a media post.
Assignment:
Chapter 5 of the textbook “Organization Development and Change” discusses the process of understanding the organization and helping managers assess where change is needed either to take advantage of an opportunity (development) or to protect from threats (problems). The book describes three potential levels of diagnosis, the organization, the group and the individual. Further, the book uses an open systems model to describe organizations and each of these levels. An open systems model describes the inputs, the transformation process, the outputs and how it is all influenced by the environment and how the environment’s reactions to the outputs provides feedback to the organizational system. The transformation process has been characterized in the book as the design component. Choose any design component at any level of interest to you, and do some research on that component. Then consider how changing that component would change the whole and how that would impact a change effort.
For example, a design component at the group level is task structure. As an engineer, for example, how a task is structured is important to the outcome of your work. So do some additional reading on some of the ways that task structure is conceptualized. Then think about the ways that a change in task structure might affect the other design components (goal clarity, team functioning, group composition and group norms). Then further think about how that change might make group level change easier or more difficult.

Goal: Create a reflective 10 slide presentation that briefly summarizes what you have learned throughout this course.
Instructions:
Throughout the course, you have encountered definitions and theories related to leadership. You have also examined your organization and leaders through the Kouzes and Posner model and other relevant literature. As a final assignment, prepare a learning summary that incorporates the following:
1. Reflect on your definition of leadership. Has it changed? What has influenced the change or kept it the same? Reflect on 1-2 “Aha!” moments related to your eight-week study during this course.
2. What impact does the encounter with theoretical material have on your view of leadership relevant to your work in your organization?
3. What three recommendations do you propose for new or experienced leaders based on what you have assimilated into your understanding through this course.
4. Support your assertions, views, and recommendations with scholarly research. Note that four (4) outside scholarly sources are the minimum (your course textbook does not count).
