To prepare for the Leadership in Action assignment, you should begin by reviewing the two case studies, 3.1 Case Study—Several Different Styles and 3.2 Case Study—Leading the Robotics Team in your text. Following each Case Study are questions that focus on viewing the actions of the leader through the lens of either Theory X and Theory Y, or using the leadership styles.
You may want to answer the questions in your notes to help you articulate your thoughts on the case studies to support the assignment. While you are reading, please use the chart below to record specific examples of the leaders using the X and/or Y theory and specific leadership styles as you will also need the examples to complete the Leadership in Action assignment. (This is just telling you what section to read it’s not part of the assignment. I’m just adding it from a separate post from the teacher)
For this assignment you will evaluate the leadership shown in two different case studies. The first, Case 3.1—Several Different Styles, shares a scenario where an employee in a bank, Vanessa, has three different managers. This is not a typical situation, but it is something you may experience in a future professional setting. The second scenario described in Case 3.2—Leading the Robotics Team, the mentor for the robotics team must choose a leader from one of three students; Pria, Justin, or Jerome.
In both scenarios, the bank managers and the students display different behaviors that would be aligned with Theory X or Theory Y, as well as a style most similar to one of the three of Lewin’s Leadership styles. You will share your understanding of the examples of leadership in two ways. First, you will share the completed chart showing examples for each of the managers and students. As the individuals described in the case studies will likely lean toward one of the two theories and one of the three leadership styles, some of the squares will be blank if the person did not demonstrate the theory or leadership style.

Record examples of the Authoritarian, Democratic, or Laissez-faire leadership style for the three bank managers and the three student leaders. (5 points)
Based on the assumptions of Theory X and Theory Y, how would you describe each manager’s or student’s philosophy and style of leadership? (20 points).
Based on the Authoritarian, Democratic, and Laissez-faire leadership styles how would you describe the individual leadership styles of Marion, Bruce, Vanessa, Pria, Justin, and Jerome? (20 points).
The information in the chart does not need to be in complete sentences, but your descriiption of the manager’s or student’s leadership style should be in complete sentences.
I’ll attach a template and the chapter on a word page if the link does not work.

– Assignment Description
The objective of this assignment is to apply the concept of Belbin project steps to a real-world situation and assess their impact on team effectiveness. By completing this assignment, learners will gain a deeper understanding of the significance of Belbin science to focus on everyone’s strengths. This understanding will be helpful when building high-performance teams and facilitating innovation within the team context.
– Assignment Structure
Step 1: Select a Real-World Team:
Choose a real-world team that you are familiar with or have access to (e.g. your workplace team, a community organization, a sports team, etc.). Ensure that the team has at least three members and is actively engaged in a collaborative project or objective.
Step 2: Analyze the Team’s Building Blocks:
Analyze the building blocks of an effective team based on the content covered in Week 2. Consider factors such as clear roles and responsibilities, effective communication channels, shared values and norms, trust and collaboration, and supportive leadership. Assess how well the team currently embodies these building blocks and identify areas for improvement.
Step 3: Understand Belbin project steps:
Review the Belbin project steps circle from earlier in this week’s content, including the characteristics of each phase and how they contribute to team dynamics. Consider how the different steps can be fulfilled complementarily by different team members and enhance overall team performance.
Step 4: Apply Belbin project steps to the Real-World Team:
Apply the concept of Belbin Team Roles to your selected real-world team. Assign one or two Belbin areas to each team member based on their observed behaviors, strengths, and skills. These should be the areas where each person would feel stronger and would be adding more value to the team. Justify your choices by providing specific examples and evidence from the team’s activities or interactions.
Step 5: Team Innovation Barometer Challenge:
Identify an innovation challenge that the team is currently facing or will face.
Create a team innovation “barometer” to define the capacity of your team to successfully overcome that innovation challenge. This barometer should measure your team’s ability to innovate, considering the team’s strengths in its capacity to innovate as well as the areas in which your team can improve in this capacity.
Reflect on how the assigned Belbin project steps can help mitigate or overcome this challenge. Evaluate the impact of the assigned Belbin areas on the team’s overall effectiveness and innovation potential. Consider how the team’s dynamics have changed, how individuals’ strengths are utilized, and any challenges or opportunities that have arisen as a result of the assigned areas.
– Grading
This is an individual assignment. This assignment will count for 30% of your final grade and will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
1-Thorough analysis of the building blocks of effective teams (30%)
2- Thoughtful application of Belbin project areas to the real-world team (30%)
3- Critical evaluation of the impact on team effectiveness and innovation (30%)
4- Structured organization and clarity of your submission (10%)
