The assignments may require use of resources posted in the class, the textbook, or outside research. While the work for either option does not need to be in APA format, and sources utilized does need to be cited in APA format accordingly. Include the necessary in-text citations as well.
Option 1:
The goal of this assignment is to provide you with an opportunity to apply your knowledge of group development, targeted population needs, family dynamics, human development, and interpersonal relationships. You will be provided with a hypothetical scenario and your task will be to reflect upon the situation and write a journal entry.
Scenario:
Your task involves a fictional non-profit organization, “Community Connect,” that specializes in providing community-based therapeutic support for underprivileged families. The current initiative of “Community Connect” involves addressing the needs of children and adolescents who are struggling with emotional and behavioral issues due to complex family dynamics. The target population consists of children aged 10-16 who are facing these challenges primarily because of parental conflict and financial instability.
The organization is planning to implement group therapy sessions where these children and adolescents can express their concerns, learn coping mechanisms, and engage in activities that promote positive self-concept. The primary goal is to foster an environment that can positively influence their development and interpersonal relationships, given their home circumstances.
Assignment Instructions:
In your journal entry, analyze the possible impacts of the family dynamics described in the scenario on the development and interpersonal relationships of the children and adolescents involved.
Reflect on the use of group therapy as an intervention tool. Discuss how the formation and facilitation of such groups can address the specific needs of the children and adolescents described in this scenario.
Based on your knowledge of group development and dynamics, propose strategies that “Community Connect” could use to enhance the effectiveness of the group therapy sessions. Consider factors like group composition, leadership, group activities, etc.
Finally, consider the ethical implications and potential challenges of implementing such group interventions. How can the organization ensure the well-being and privacy of these vulnerable individuals while facilitating effective group dynamics?
This assignment is expected to be approximately 4 to 6 pages in length double-spaced. Please make sure to utilize course materials, textbook readings, and external resources (if needed) to substantiate your reflections. Option 2:
The goal of this assignment is to introduce you to the concept of advocacy and the Advocacy Competency Model. You will explore how this model could be applied in human service organizations to address the interpersonal and institutional conditions that marginalize certain groups and inhibit human functioning.

For this assignment, you will write a 4-to-7-page double-spaced essay that is divided into three sections:
Section A: Understanding the Advocacy Competency Model
Discuss the key components of the Advocacy Competency Model and its relevance to human service organizations. How can the application of this model support or enhance human growth and development?
Section B: Scenario Analysis
Choose one of the following scenarios:
Scenario 1: Education Access in a Rural Community In a rural community, many children have limited access to quality education due to the lack of resources and trained teachers in the local school. As a result, students from this community have lower test scores and higher dropout rates compared to students in urban areas. There is a local human service organization that aims to support these students, but they struggle to make significant changes due to the limited funding and resources available.
Scenario 2: Mental Health Support for Refugees A human service organization is working with refugees who have recently resettled in a small city. Many of these refugees are struggling with mental health issues such as depression and post-traumatic stress disorder due to their experiences in their home countries and the challenges of adjusting to a new culture. The local mental health services are ill-equipped to handle the specific needs of these individuals, largely due to cultural and language barriers.
Analyze the chosen scenario. What interpersonal and institutional conditions could potentially marginalize the individuals in the scenario?
Section C: Advocacy Action Plan
Propose an Advocacy Action Plan that aligns with the Advocacy Competency Model to address the issues identified in the chosen scenario. Your plan should identify the issues, propose strategies that align with the Advocacy Competency Model, and outline potential outcomes.
Be sure to incorporate references from the Advocacy Competency Model and any relevant course materials throughout the essay.
Cite any sources used in APA format.

You will begin by reading the peer-reviewed academic journal article, “Exploring Policy Implications of Ethics of Care and Justice in Care Work and Human Services Organizations” .You will then summarize the main findings of this research article in two pages (double-spaced) and reflect on what you read in two pages (double-spaced).describing how the journal article connects to the course and how you could adapt your helping strategies when working with vulnerable children. In addition to discussing key terms and ideas, you will point out the methodological and theoretical strengths and weaknesses you can identify in the research article.
To promote critical thinking, you will create one discussion question (place this question at the end of the last page of your reflection paper). This discussion question can be general such as a basic question about a topic in the article that stood out to you or you can ask a question that connects the article’s topic to current events.

Week 2 Discussion 1: Ethical/Legal and Cultural Considerations in Assessment & Assessment Qualification Levels
Review the qualification levels for the use of psychological assessment presented in Naugle’s “Counseling and Testing” in this week’s study activity. Compare these qualifications to your state laws or rules in your specialization to determine your qualification level, and describe what type of assessments you may be qualified to administer with appropriate training and supervision after you are licensed in your state. As a licensed or certified counselor in your specialization, which level will you qualify under in your state, and what do training and supervision entail for Level A, B, and C tests?
