INFLUENCES ON EMPLOYEE RELATIONS
Assignment Overview
Signature Assignment: Information Literacy, Emphasized Level
View this video on information literacy.
As mentioned previously, there are many influences on employee relations in organizations. One of the most relevant today is the amount of information that is available.
There are numerous sources of information available to us as students, employees, labor union representatives, HRM professionals, and business managers. Before we use information that we have found, however, it is important that we evaluate its authority and appropriateness.
Case Assignment
In this assignment you will be evaluating sources and developing an Annotated Bibliography of your findings.
Review the following articles related to information literacy and others you have found and make a comprehensive list of important factors needed to evaluate sources. (You will need to include this list as an Appendix in your Annotated Bibliography.)
Herring, J. E. (2011). Chapter 3: Evaluating websites, Figure 3.1, p. 38. In Improving students’ web use and information literacy: a guide for teachers and teacher librarians. Facet Publishing. Available in the Trident Online Library, EBSCO eBook Collection.
Lack, C. W., & Rousseau, J. (2016). Chapter 4: What is critical thinking? In Critical thinking, science, and pseudoscience: Why we can’t trust our brains. Springer Publishing Company. Available in the Trident Online Library, EBSCO eBook Collection.
Find three valid sources related to workplace relations from the Trident Online Library and one valid source from the web/internet. Use sources that are outside of module readings that you have not utilized previously in other MSHRM courses. They should be sources “brand new” to you.
List the source citations in APA format under the heading Annotated Bibliography.
Under each source citation, in paragraph form:
Briefly discuss what the source covers and its importance to the topic of workplace relations.
and
Analyze specifically how the factors listed in your Appendix apply to the source (i.e., carefully critique the source using those factors).
Submit your assignment by the module due date.
Information Literacy
As you may recall, the first signature assignment addressing information literacy at the “introduced” level was located in the ETH501 Business Ethics, Case 1 Assignment.
Then, in MGT516 Legal Implications in HRM, information literacy was assessed at the “reinforced” level in Case 1.
Now, in this HRM522 Case 1 assignment, your information literacy skills will be further developed reaching the “emphasized” level.
These three assignments build upon each other and aim to offer you the opportunity to enhance and practice your information literacy skills at the graduate level.
The grading rubric for this HRM522 assignment has been developed to measure student success in meeting the HRM522 Case 1 expectations related to information literacy.
Assignment Expectations

Information Literacy: Evaluate resources and identify resources that provide reliable, substantiated information.

Create a fictional character for a movie. The character should be in a management position. Ensure you address the following topics in your paper:
Describe the personality of your character (this is to help the reader understand the challenges your leader faces).
How did your character develop their management traits?
Identify three management traits the leader possesses, and explain why they are necessary for a successful manager.
Discuss how you can develop each skill or trait in your own life. Training, education, experience, etc. – but be specific (if you create goals, they should be SMART).
What are the possible disadvantages of having these traits?
How can you market the traits (for this, I would like to see resume bullets for each of the traits)? Put yourself in your character’s shoes, as if they were writing a resume.
How do you relate to your character? Could you be managed by him/her/it?

A visual board is a powerful tool used to enhance communication, collaboration, and productivity within a team or organization. It is a physical or digital board that displays visual representations of information, tasks, goals, and progress.
The board serves as a crucial point of reference for the team, providing a clear and easily accessible overview of key details and fostering transparency and alignment.
The outcome of implementing a visual board is multifaceted and can have a significant impact on team dynamics and performance. Here are the key benefits and outcomes:
Enhanced Communication: A visual board promotes effective communication by providing a shared platform where team members can access and contribute information. It enables clear and concise communication, reducing misunderstandings and ensuring everyone is on the same page.
Improved Collaboration: The visual board encourages collaboration by visually representing tasks, responsibilities, and deadlines. It facilitates better coordination among team members, enabling them to work together towards common goals and identify dependencies.
Increased Accountability: With a visual board, tasks, and responsibilities are clearly assigned and visible to everyone. This fosters a sense of accountability within the team, as individuals can see their own progress and that of their teammates. It promotes an initiative-taking approach to completing tasks and meeting goals.
Transparency and Visibility: The visual board provides transparency by making information readily available to all team members. It eliminates information silos and ensures that everyone has access to the same information. This transparency builds trust and promotes a culture of open communication.
Focus and Prioritization: By visualizing tasks and goals, a visual board helps teams focus on what is most important. It enables the team to prioritize effectively and make informed decisions about resource allocation and task sequencing. This leads to improved productivity and efficient use of resources.
Continuous Improvement: The visual board facilitates continuous improvement by allowing teams to track progress and identify areas for refinement. It enables teams to analyze performance metrics, identify bottlenecks, and implement changes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
Sense of Achievement: As tasks are completed and goals are achieved, the visual board provides a tangible representation of progress. This fosters a sense of accomplishment and motivates team members to continue their efforts toward further success.
In summary, implementing a visual board in a team or organization can have a transformative effect. It improves communication, collaboration, accountability, and transparency while enabling focus, prioritization, and continuous improvement. The outcome is a more engaged and productive team that achieves its goals with greater efficiency and effectiveness.
Instructions:
To create a vision board in PowerPoint, follow these steps:
Open PowerPoint and create a new slide.
Choose a background color or image that inspires you.
Insert images, text, and quotes that represent your vision or goals.
Arrange the images and text on the slide to create a visually appealing layout.
Add any additional elements that help you visualize your goals, such as icons, graphics, or symbols.
Save your vision board as a PowerPoint Presentation.
When creating a vision board, it can be helpful to ask yourself the following questions:
What do I want to achieve in my life, career, or relationships?
What values do I hold most important, and how can I represent them visually?
What inspires and motivates me, and how can I incorporate those elements into my vision board?
What obstacles or challenges do I need to overcome to achieve my goals, and how can I represent those challenges on my vision board?
How will I measure progress towards my goals, and how can I represent those measures on my vision board?
By asking yourself these questions, you can create a vision board that is personalized, inspiring, and effective in helping you achieve your goals.

360-Degree Appraisal
The 360-degree appraisal approach entails collecting performance information from several workers who interact with the employee being evaluated. For example, information can be collected from supervisors, subordinates, customers, and peers. In some situations, employees also evaluate their own work as a part of the 360-degree appraisal process. The 360-degree appraisal is designed to provide a comprehensive perspective on an employee’s performance. Some organizations use the 360-degree appraisal process mainly for developmental purposes because the results can be contradicting. The 360-degree appraisal process is a helpful foundational step to learning an employee’s strengths and weaknesses and then using that information for generating goals for MBO. Most employees prefer the 360-degree appraisal process because of its comprehensiveness and the amount of information that emerges from multiple sources. The following image is an example of different individuals who could potentially evaluate an employee during a 360-degree appraisal.
Potential Individuals Involved in a 360-Degree Feedback Appraisal Process
Assignment
Create a slide presentation that you will be presenting to your entire organization relating to the implementation of a 360-degree feedback appraisal process. Prepare 10-15 slides and notes to go along with each.
Make a persuasive presentation. As the VP of HR (known for being creative and intelligent), your task will be to define this unique performance management appraisal tool, how it will be implemented, the added value to each employee of using this type of system, and what the consequences might be of an employee receiving a low rating.
