Discussion 1
In many organizations, being people-centered is considered soft, irrelevant, and unrelated to profitability. Based on the video, “Everybody Matters: A Documentary Short Based on the Best Selling Book” and the assigned readings on conscious capitalism, contemplate the conscious capitalism principles (e.g., conscious leadership, stakeholder orientation, conscious culture, and higher purpose) as a framework. Consider at least two companies that successfully adopted this business philosophy to gain success and combat traditional corporate approaches. How do these companies embody the tenet of “higher purpose” and create deeper meaning by focusing their goals beyond profits and inspiring stakeholders? What connections can you identify between the four principles of conscious capitalism and the Christian concept of putting others before oneself?
Discussion 2
Explain the value of analyzing organizational behavior from the individual, group, and organizational perspective. What do you think is the benefit of understanding these three perspectives and their impact on organizational behavior overall?

A strategic component and responsibility of the human resources department is the management of the people of the organization, which is frequently called human capital management. As the new HR manager, you have conducted an analysis of your organization and found that performance management processes are highly inconsistent among departments. There are no ties to organizational goals, and departments are free to determine the review criteria for their employees. Some departments have a process of a formal annual appraisal while other departments do not provide employees with any documented feedback on their performance. In performance improvement, some departments have a process of documenting employee performance issues; others seem to follow a process of no documented warnings before recommending termination. With your experience, you recognize the benefits of establishing a comprehensive performance management process that ties individual, group, and department performance, and rewards to organizational goals and success.
Using the Internet and the library, research information on performance management and then develop a detailed plan to present to your chief executive officer (CEO). In this process, you will focus on three key areas of performance management: performance appraisals, tying performance goals with strategic organizational goals, and the disciplinary action/performance coaching process. At minimum, your plan should address the following:
The value a performance management program brings to the organization
A discussion of the various performance management programs you considered in developing your final suggestions
A rationale for your selection of different aspects of your plan
How your organization will address the three key areas of performance management: appraisals; improving employee performance; and aligning individual performance to group, department, and organizational goals
A communication plan for informing all employees about the new process
Training that will be provided to employees and managers
The additional issues/challenges that need to be considered with the implementation of these programs
In your research, other areas of performance management the organization might consider for implementation after this initial phase

As the newly hired human resources (HR) manager for a jewelry store, you have placed your initial focus on the areas of staffing and training development. During your organizational analysis, you discovered the following with regard to staffing and training:
Line managers are currently handling the recruiting and staffing functions. Each manager tends to follow different hiring practices. Some of the managers are reluctant to hand over the hiring of their staff to the HR department. Other managers feel burdened with the staffing responsibilities and are anxious to turn it over as quickly as possible. No job descriptions exist within the organization.
Upon hire, employees are given a 2-hour orientation session focusing on department policy and procedure. There is no additional training given, but rather, it is on the job training and learn as you go. There are no formal training classes and no management training programs.
You would like to obtain feedback from the line managers prior to making a presentation to the chief executive officer (CEO). Taking the above conditions into consideration, address the following questions in a presentation that you will deliver to a team of three to four line managers:Staffing Function:
What are your preliminary recommendations with regard to centralizing the staffing function under the HR umbrella?
What will the new process look like?
With regard to this new staffing strategy, what challenges do you anticipate, and what is your plan to overcome those challenges?
How can you position this to demonstrate how this will impact the performance efforts of the organization?
What results do you anticipate?
Training and Development Function:
With regard to the training/development function, what preliminary recommendations would you make?
What challenges do you anticipate with this new employee development strategy, and what is your plan to overcome those challenges?
How can you position this decision to the CEO to demonstrate how this will impact the performance efforts of the organization?
What results do you anticipate?
