COVID 19 was declared a global pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO) on March 11, 2020. The first COVID vaccine was approved for use via emergency authorization in August of 2021. A number of other measures constituted the US government and state government public health response. Perform a literature review on MOUD initiation in emergency departments. Synthesize multiple primary research studies in a PRISMA flow diagram. Develop a document describing the systematic review . Using ethical decision-making, you will determine the best method of allocating limited medical resources to a growing and aging population. By the end of this unit, you will be able to analyze the effect ethics has on day-to-day operations as well as long-term policy and procedure in a healthcare environment.
The population segment aged 65 and older is rapidly growing in the United States. As a result, new ethical challenges are emerging in the field, specifically in long-term care.
One area of concern is the challenge of providing adequate healthcare services to a growing (and aging) population with limited resources. This dilemma is expected to increase as the population continues to increase. As a result, the demand for medical services increases; however, with finite healthcare resources, providing services to everyone who requires care is not possible.
This will present a unique challenge for nursing home administrators because they are responsible to ensure that resident needs (including receiving healthcare services) are being met. Determining who should receive the necessary care that is available will be an interdisciplinary challenge indeed.
Scholars have posited a variety of allocation methods; however, these principles have not been without controversy. One of the most recent principles introduced is the complete lives system. This method is unique, because unlike its predecessors that relied on a unilateral perspective, the complete lives systems takes a multi-allocation system approach.

HCO and/or provider violations maybe both illegal and may result in financial penalties. Not all healthcare laws are enforced by the same entity. Some are enforced by the Office of Civil Rights. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, the State Professional Licensing Boards, Federal prosecutors. Some penalties are financial and others may result in losing a professional license or a facility registration. After violation providers and HCOs may be prohibited from participating in state or federal programs.
Format:
Find a current newspaper or scholarly article or an industry newsletter where a health care organization or a provider was found guilty of malpractice, criminal negligence, false credentials, failure to treat, or patient abandonment.
1. Which critical health care error does the article address?
2. Draw from your readings and experience to date. Assess what factors lead up to the error for both the HCO and the professional. Touch on Duties, Scope of Practice (state boards), and standard of care.
