You will write a critical analysis paper, 10 pages long (8-to-9-page essay + 1-to-2 pages bibliography), double-spaced and type written. The font size will be twelve (12) with one (1) inch margin on all sides.
The paper will entail a close, comparative textual analysis of two films from the list of films used in class this semester. You may also include a film of your choice along with a film shown in class as you compare them. Please justify your film selections.
You may include one or two specific theories to strengthen your comparative analysis and argument. Theoretical topics include Auteur Theory and Modernism, Genre and Ideology, Psychoanalytical Theory and Gender Criticism, Postmodernism, Poststructuralism and Cultural Studies.
Paper will use the MLA (Modern Language Association) style of academic and scholarly writing.

If the idea is the same, what seems to be the show’s perspective on this theme? If the themes seem to be different, is there some unifying idea you can find from episode to episode? Write a traditional 5-6 page analytical paper considering the impact of geographic location, culture, historical and cinema context on the film “Schindler’s List”. The essay must show evidence of both close reading, and detailed research, including in both cinema studies and history. You should use footnotes and references. You can use Chicago Manual of Style Humanities reference model.

Film Review: pick two or three films relating to Indian civilization and analyze their approaches. If the film is three hours or more, it counts as two. If it is a long (6+ hours) documentary series, you can just do that one series. How does the film reconstruct aspects of Indian Civilization and cast it in a particular light? On what issue(s) do the films focus, and why? What message(s) do they promote? How accurate are the films? What are some reasons for the films’ focus (or fabrications)? I expect a critical review that draws connections between the film and Indian civilization themes. Be sensitive to when the film was made and how contemporary events influenced its production.
