For this assignment, you will select and write a brief review of at least three books in each of the following genres: picturebooks, graphica, traditional literature, speculative fiction. The books that you select for this review should be targeted at a range of different grade levels (from preK – 8). Also, at least 12 of the books that you review should fall under the category of multicultural children’s literature. Each review should be no more than 200 words in length. The reviews should be organized according to genre, and then alphabetically by the author’s last name. If the children’s book qualifies as a multicultural book, then the review should be in blue font (as in the Huck textbook). The following information should be included with each review: author’s name (last, first), book title (in bold), illustrator’s name (if any) (first last) (italicized), year of publication (italicized), # of pages (italicized), publisher (italicized), target grade levels (italicized), your brief synopsis, and your recommendation (in bold) (on a scale of not recommended, recommended, or highly recommended). Your brief synopsis should describe the topic, theme(s), and main ideas of the text, while evaluating its overall quality. For each multicultural book in your bibliography, the synopsis should indicate why the book has been labeled as such.

Aguilar, David A.
Cosmic Catastrophes: Seven Ways to Destroy a Planet like Earth 2016. 80pp. Viking Children’s Books. Grades 3-6. What could destroy our home planet? What dangers do we face from the depths of space? Readers who like their adventure and danger on a planetary scale will be captivated by this book. Astronomer, artist, and author of outstanding books on space for children, David Aguilar explains how and why a planet like Earth could be changed or destroyed by dangers in the cosmos. Seven scenarios from asteroids and comets to supernovas and alien invasion are realistically described with scientific accuracy. Several of these dangers have already occurred in the Earth’s past, such as the Chelyabinsk Oblast asteroid which struck February 13, 2014. Another huge asteroid impacting off the coast of Yucatan is believed to have ended the age of dinosaurs. Other cataclysmic causes, such as colliding galaxies and rogue planets, are much less likely. Lavish illustrations and diagrams fill most double-page spreads. A final section takes readers into the creative process Aguilar uses to create his images. A list of books, media, and web sites enable students to continue reading and research. Highly Recommended

The paper should be typed, and double-spaced; the length should be 5-7 pages.  Please use MLA style and include a works cited page.  As far as cited sources go, the assigned required and recommended readings, as well articles accessed through JSTOR or Project MUSE are permissible. James Baldwin’s novel, Giovanni’s Room, deals with several issues regarding what it means to be an American from the standpoint of another country. Clearly, “American” or national identity intersects with other identity categories: gender, sexuality, and race. Additionally, these intersecting identities are played out within the many “rooms” in the novel (Giovanni’s room and cell, Guillaume’s apartment, the bar room, David’s house, New York City and Paris as types of rooms, etc.). Write an essay that addresses some of the intersecting identities contained within a room (e.g., national identity and sexuality in Giovanni’s room, etc.) and explains the significance. Pull one or more sources in addition to the novel to frame the main and supporting points of your paper.

For my assignment we were told to find an adaptation of a fairy tale we read in class. I decided to do an adaptation of cinderella. The adaptation of Cinderella Im using is called “Fairy God Mothers are Everywhere” written by Donna Quattrone (I will attach the link to the story). My focus and what Im researching is how the line is blurred between reality and magic (liminal fantasy) in that particular story, I also dont have a research question yet, im hoping youll be able to come up with that based on this information. So far I have the 3 sources that I will provide that I want used in my essay. I will provide you with the annotated bibliography (with secondary sources inside) which will explain how I want the sources to be used. This essay shouldnt follow the 5 parapraph form (my teacher dislikes it). My teacher doesnt want an essay that has a thesis that is answered by 3 solutions but rather a format that looks like tthis :
intro, paragraph that gives a summary of the fairy tale, paragraph explaining what Liminal fantasy is and when its present in the story(including corresponding source), paragraph that explains how fairy god mothers are protrayed in literature (corresponding source), paragraph that contrasts and compares liminal fantasy (corresponding source), consclusion, and any other paragraphs that you think will fit.
Most of the information on the secondary sources and what I want you to use them for will be found in the final project annotated bibliography (attached). the word limit is 1800 words +/- 15%.
