Design: You will select a word to use in combination with your name to create a mnemonic device. You may use your first name, your last name, or your initials. The image must be simple, but a memorable combination of the selected word and your name.

 Alliteration is a great way to create a memorable mnemonic device with your name. Above, Dylan paired donuts with his name. He physically created the donut with sugar letters, then took an image of the object for his design. He added the colors behind in an image editing program, and the result is a very memorable mnemonic device, that to this day reminds me of Dylan.
Written Companion: You will include a designer’s written companion that explains the process you used in your design and the principles and strategies that you used. Identify and explain 3-6 principles from module 2 to describe your design. Don’t forget to describe the mnemonic device!
Example:
Some brands use acronyms with an image/design to help push the brand’s identity and help the audience remember the name and important concepts.
Here, P.U.S.H stands for Power, Unleash, Strength, and Heart. The image tells the story of PUSH and the mnemonic device helps the viewer important brand points.
Try turning your initials into a Mnemonic device and an image that tells your story!
Common Errors and Warnings
Chunking: Do not create long or lengthy texts with your image. Chunk out the memorable mnemonic device to a simple one or two-word device, and keep it lower on the readability scale, we want to appeal to many people!
Layer Meaning: Choose images and text that have layered meanings: If your device is Peter Planting, consider how Plant is both an object and a verb, to plant your feet. This double meaning makes the mnemonic device stronger, and more memorable. Highlight both Peter, and plant, by planting his feet into the ground, and leafy green plants sprouting from his legs!
Simplify: Don’t create overly ornate typefaces with ornate and complex images with complex copy, (your wordcraft). Instead, simplify your images to Icons, and symbols, and contained stripped-down images. Say a lot with little, Simplicity!.
Use searched images!: There are no restrictions on where you find images for this assignment, search icons, design your own, and add text. Just don’t steal an already existing Mnemonic device or logo, that is plagiarism and copyright infringement.

Yichen Pan: WEARING MASK
We have made significant progress in our fight against COVID-19. We discovered the value of wearing masks during this difficult trip in order to protect both others and ourselves. We must remember the obligation we still have even as the world gradually returns to normal. We endanger public health and safety when we carelessly discard masks in addition to contributing to environmental damage. When handled improperly, viruses and potentially dangerous compounds found in masks have the ability to transmit illness.
Throwing masks on the ground, inappropriately disposing of them in public areas, or leaving them lying about are all activities that raise the risk of illnesses and serve as breeding grounds for contamination.
Though COVID-19 may be fading, our need to safeguard others and ourselves endures. We can protect our environment and maintain the safety of our communities by using and discarding masks in the right ways.
Key Things to Note
Always get rid of masks the right manner. After usage, put them in the appropriate bins or containers. Consult local regulations or authorities if you are unclear about the appropriate disposal procedure.
Take into account reusable options: If at all feasible, choose washable, reusable masks. This not only minimizes waste but also guarantees that masks are properly maintained and cleaned.
Inform others: Share this knowledge with your family, friends, and coworkers. Spread the word on how to dispose of masks properly. Together, we can change things.

Overview
For this assignment, you will need to create a Public Service Announcement. 
A Public Service Announcement is generally an advertisement to market a change in public interest or attitudes about a topic. They generally do this by raising awareness and trying to stimulate action among viewers. By using the principles in Module 2 and 1, you will design an original PSA design.

In a single piece, you must incorporate both image andtext to create a Public Service Announcement. You must choose 1 topic from the following:

Childhood Obesity

Mental Health
LGBTQ Awareness
Climate Change

Research facts and Motto: You will need to research the topic, find facts that are substantiated, and incorporate these in some way in your PSA. The example above found the number of toxins found in the Ohio river on average. You must also create an original tagline or Motto to accompany your PSA. The above example utilizes and alters the well-known motto,” Got Milk”, into “Got Water”.
Written Companion: With the piece, you will include a designer’s written companion that explains the process you used in your design and the principles and strategies that you used. 3-6 Principles cited from Module 2 and 1 with explanations and effect of principle on the audience.
Image/Photograph: It is important that all the work be your own. DO NOT: just use an image you found on Google Image Search and add some text to it. I would rather that you draw out your idea and it not be as polished than to use someone else’s work as your work (Copyright and Plagiarism apply).
The image at the top of the page was a simple photograph that the student took of her friend drinking a glass of water. You can use a free image and text editing programs to combine an image with your facts/motto.

Or, you can print an image of your PSA and physically write on the image. Be sure to take a very good photograph of your work, remove all exterior information, make sure the image is resolute, not blurring, and that the image is perpendicular to the camera.

NO Googled images: You may not use googled or existing designs or photographs, all art, designs, and photographs must be original and of your making.
Research Facts: Don’t forget to research relevant facts and data about your subject, and use an abridged version in the design
Tagline: Don’t forget to invent your own memorable tagline to help your audience remember or connect to your topic, use it in the design.
Legibility: Typefaces and fonts are always fun to use, but be sure your choices are legible, if we can’t read it, we can not connect with the topic.
Principles: Highlight the principles of design from module 2 in your writing, the writing is always to be used to relate the principles to the reader through definitions and the specific context of your design. Don’t just identify, explain the HOW and WHY.
