Digital Necromancy –
Digital Necromancy is the process of re-creating celebrities digitally, or otherwise bringing dead celebrities “back to life” in today’s entertainment. In SIX paragraphs (6-7 sentences per paragraph) explain if you feel that this ability to bring celebrities back to life (digitally) is a good or a bad thing. If you were a celebrity, would you put a clause in your will (as Carrie Fisher did that allows her to be in Star Wars or as Robin Williams did, disallowing any digital use of his image) to allow or protect against you being used in commercials or movies without your consent? What if you died in the 1960s and now your grand-nephew was putting you in beer commercials today? Is it OK, or is it wrong? Should only celebrities alive today (who realize that this technology is possible) be able to participate in this kind of after-death contract, as opposed to those who died over 30 years ago and would not have known to include a clause in their will prohibiting this type of usage of their image? You can bring up any other issues that you can think of on this issue in your writing.
Finally, try to find an example of a dead celebrity selling something today (apart from the ones exampled in the video). It can be just a photograph in an ad, or a moving image like a commercial or one in a movie (like President Kennedy reanimated in the film Forrest Gump). What do you think?

Find three artworks online by Marshall that you find particularly interesting, lively, or moving. 1.Select ANY IMAGE from the first 7 lessons of this class that has some PERSONAL SIGNIFICANCE for you. Personal significance, that is strong emotional or critical reaction to the image you choose is the entire point of this discussion. Choose from the modules. You may also discuss a related Image that is not in the modules, but ask the professor first. Avoid the big, famous post-card stuff like “Leonardo’s last Supper” because it’s low-hanging fruit and previous students have done it to death. Show me that you’ve done a deeper dive into the material. By the same token, If you select an image not relevant to the parameters, it will be deleted for being OFF-TOPIC. Off-TOPIC posts just confuse the discussion.
2. Do some research about the image and the artist and know a little bit about them. This need not be more than a few introductory words. Statements like ” I don’t know what that guy with the beard is holding but it looks like a stick maybe” just make you look foolish. Do a little work and find out who the guy is, what he’s doing and so on.
3. Write a PERSONAL REFLECTION about what the image means to YOU, how it informs YOUR your life or YOUR experience. This is the most critical item. DO NOT just give the class a few dull, Generic facts cribbed out of wikipedia or worse, padded with AI generated rhetoric. That’s a rip-off, and it’s not what this assignment is about. Write with your own voice. Nobody in this class is a robot. Don’t sound like one. Don’t try to sound like an Art critic or a travelogue reporter either. Proof read for sense and spelling by all means but never undermine your own voice.
Traditional testing tells me which facts about the course content you have have acquired, but discussions tell me how you’re applying that knowledge. Both are vital, and weigh equally in your grade assessment. In fact, no student may pass this course without the ability to put thoughts into written English. Make no mistake, literacy is a big deal. It’s also a project requirement. A few Students have tried to pass this course without doing any written assignments.
The end was sad, so please, don’t go there.
4. Post the image you selected along with a personal reflection essay of 450 -700 words. ALWAYS post in the discussion window. Links will not be graded. If I see a link in your discussion it tells me that you didn’t read the parameters.

ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS Utilizing a provided Photoshop (.PSD) movie poster template file (shown below), use what you have learned so far in this class to create a SuperHero or SciFi movie poster by non-destructively combining 2 or more images together into one seamless and credible composite design. SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS Please submit the following to your Assignments Folder: 1. The completed Photoshop (.PSD) file. Do not merge the layers together. 2. The individual images (2 or more) used to complete your poster design. 3. A JPG version of the completed project. 4. Submit a Project Reflection (see details below). 5. Include all of the fonts used. PROJECT REFLECTION Answer the following questions when you submit your assignments files. a. Did you select a Superhero or Science Fiction Movie? b.
