The first decision student will make is the them or concept that ties the activity together to be shared with families. The instructor encourage students to choose a them/concept that aligns to current curriculum offered in the field setting. some suggestions for concepts are:

2) After the them/concept has been identified, student will need to make decisions about any materials for their activity. if students decide to include in their family engagement experience, the items should be play-based and developmentally appropriate (i.e.. age-appropriate, socially and culturally appropriate, individually appropriate). * Remember that children typically prefer authentic “real” items rather than toys when engaged in play. (for example, children can do and learn so much more with real, but broken, telephone than with a toy telephone.) As you examine materials, think about different ways that children could utilize these items. Do they promote movement? Conversation? Imaginative or role play? Be sure to consider the content areas that these items touch upon and include resources which are inclusive of the following domains:
