Identifying Potential Community Partners Discussion
Now that you have identified what community you will work with and what problem you want to address in that community, begin to do some research on what organizations exist to address the problem(s) you are considering in your identified community. As this project requires you to partner with a community organization, knowing what is available could help you decide what problem to address if you are still deciding.
Use this discussion board to share with your classmates the potential community partners available for the problem(s) you are considering. Your post should be a conversational, informal sharing of thoughts and organizations.
In your post make sure you share the name of the community partner and a website link for them.
You can also share:
basic information about their focus
your thinking behind identifying them as a potential partner for this project
what you are looking for in a community partner for this project/your criterion for evaluating the potential community partners
pros and cons of partnering with the organization
next steps toward partnering with that organization
You are not required to include all the information listed above for each potential community partner.
This discussion is intended to give you the opportunity to think through the potential community partners available and what you need from your community partner for this project. Sharing with your peers gives you the chance to see what your classmates are thinking for their project and share insights you might have that would help.
For this discussion, you are required to post a reply to one of your peer’s post. Any thoughts about their plans? Any suggestions that you can provide to assist them? Hearing someone else’s thoughts can help make your own thinking evolve. This is an informal sharing of ideas, you are welcome to cite sources, but it is not required.
– This Salvation Army is my first partner that I want to work with for these neighborhoods
I went to the Salvation Army shelter located at 45 Ashlyn Dr. SE., Concord, NC 28025
I interviewed Katelyn Ford, the case manager for the individuals who come to the shelter.
– This shelter is roughly 20 minutes from the neighborhoods I have assessed
– This is no longer an emergency shelter like it used to be.

– It opens at 6 PM every night, and then they leave at 8 AM every morning.
– I realize that once they leave the shelter at 8 AM every morning, they need a place to stay during the day.
– later on, I discovered that some of them stay at the library or some go and find any place where they can stay before they return at 6 PM
– the community free clinic is my second partner that I have chosen to work with.
– I went to the community free clinic located at 528 Lake Concord Road NE A
Concord, NC 28025
– I was able to interview a nurse manager, Karen Choni, RN BSM
– this clinic started 30 years ago, and they have a couple of doctors who work with them
– this clinic is only open four days a week, Monday through Thursday
– For qualified patients, don’t pay anything to receive care at this clinic.
– The patients who are not qualified use a low-income calculation, and they are still treated.
