Hello Class,
Healthcare technology
Medical spas are becoming a more sought-after treatment in our society today. There are several technology trends that are emerging that focus on patient engagement and data management. In medical spas, we witness treatments like laser hair removal and Botox injections. We are seeing the use of telehealth increasing in this work field because it helps simplify and focus on patient engagement. With telehealth healthcare workers can do initial assessments and conduct a good faith exam prior to the patient coming in. Good faith exams ask a series of questions pertaining to the patients’ medical history. This will help determine if a patient qualifies for laser hair removal or Botox injections. If patient have any questions they can request for a telehealth appointments, to meet the patients’ requests (Haleem et al., 2021).
Concerns
Even though these technologies provide many benefits, they also present challenges and risks. Data privacy is a great concern, as these medical spas collect sensitive patient information. This can include medical history, diagnosis, and current treatment plans. The patient’s information needs to be safeguarded against breaches and scams. Using AI driven tools for treatment recommendations can also put risks into place since there can be faulty data obtained and misinformation being presented. Inappropriate treatment suggestions can also take place with AI driven tools. Compliance with regulations such as HIPAA can be complex, especially as technology evolves and new privacy standards are created (Price & Cohen, 2019).
Remote Patient Monitoring
There are many promising technology trends impacting this nursing practice. One of the more important ones is going to be remote patient monitoring. This system allows for nurses to track treatment responses and monitor patients’ health concerns remotely. This can be extremely beneficial in post treatment recovery for Botox. For example, with a mobile app nurses and other healthcare workers can check in on their patients throughout the recovery process. Botox takes about 2 weeks for its full affects to be at its strongest. This system can help address and concerns and result in better patient satisfaction and outcomes. This technology can improve patient management and reduce wait times in the office, since patient’s questions can be answered remotely instead of scheduling unnecessary appointment. This will allow nurses to focus more on direct patient care (Serrano et al., 2023).
