Quantitative Research Proposal (due May 9, 2024)
The purpose of a proposal is to clearly describe the rationale for a study and the exact procedures
that would be used to conduct a study. In other words, someone else could read your proposal
and actually conduct the project. This assignment will assess your ability to demonstrate
content knowledge, social work skills and cognitive and affective processes.

▪ You are expected to use APA style throughout your proposal.
▪ Comply with all guidelines established in the National Association of Social Workers
Code of Ethics on Research and the National Research Act of 1974 (Public Law 93-348).
▪ Use your practice experience to develop your proposal.
▪ Make your proposal realistic.
▪ There should not be any one-sentence paragraphs in your proposal.
Title:
The title defines the independent and dependent variables of the study.
Abstract:
The abstract includes:
● A one-sentence problem statement.
● The sampling procedure to be used, number of subjects/cases, etc.
● The research design to be employed including date and place of the
study.
● The statistical test(s) to be used.
● The anticipated results.
● A sentence stating that the methodological issues, implications for
social work practice, and future research will be discussed.
❖ The abstract should use single spacing and be on a separate page.
❖ Name key words that describe the proposal
Introduction First Paragraph:
● Discuss the purpose and importance of the study in the first paragraph..
Answer the “so what?” question. Why should we care about this
study?
Second Paragraph:
● Describe the major causes of the problem, if known. Discuss any
major theories that relate to these causes.
Third Paragraph:
● Describe the setting in which the research will take place including its
mission and goals and the types of services provided, etc.
Fourth Paragraph:
● Explicitly state the research question, objectives of the research, and/or
proposed hypotheses.
● Specific hypotheses to be tested must be specified at the end of the
introduction.
Lit Review
● Provide a coherent and thorough review of any pertinent literature
regarding this problem and provide logical linkages between theory,
research, operationalization, and hypothesizing.
● The literature review should relate to the specific variables named in
the hypotheses.
● Include at least 10 current references (previous 10 years). These
references MUST come from peer reviewed journals in order to count
toward this required number.
Methodology:
The methodology contains the sample, design, and measurement
(instrumentation) sections.
Sampling:
● The sampling section within the methodology must name and describe
the sampling method that will be used.
● Identify what and how many cases, people, records, etc., may be
sampled.
● Provide a desсrіption of important characteristics of the sample.
● Describe how informed consent will be obtained or confidentiality will
be maintained.
Design:
● The research design
● The procedures to be followed
● Time frames and place of study.
● Identify and operationalize your independent and dependent variables.
● Discuss any covariates that are important to think about.
Measurement/Instrumentation:
● Describe the constructs to be measured.
● Describe the measures to be used.
● Discuss reliability and validity of the measurement tools.
Analysis:
● How will you analyze your data?
● What are the statistical tests you will use? Justify your choice.
