Reflective Essay Assignment
As we saw in Hemingway’s A Farewell to Arms, Frederic Henry’s perspective on war changed because of his experiences. Everyone has unique experiences, and many of them cause us to change how we view situations, people, and the world around us.
Topic
Write a five-paragraph essay that reflects on how an experience caused a change of perspective for you.
Getting Started
Begin by thinking of experiences you’ve had that have changed something for you. Write these down as you think of them.
There’s nothing too big (conquering a fear) or too small (changing from liking Coke to Pepsi) to include!
The change in perspective can be based on any person, place, or situation.
Writing Tips
Essay Structure
Your essay should have an introduction, three body paragraphs, and a conclusion.
Each body paragraph should have one main idea and details to support it.
A paragraph should have at least five sentences to be fully developed.
A good way to structure your essay:
Introduction
The introduction sets up your writing by letting the reader know about your topic, and what you will discuss about it.
No major details should be here, it′s just where you let us know the goal of your writing.  Think of it as a movie preview, you get the highlights and focus, but need to see the movie to see all of the main action.
Be sure that your introduction includes a thesis statement. This is the one sentence that all information in the body of your essay should point back to. Check out this site for more info on crafting a strong thesis statement (https://tinyurl.com/2suk469f)
Body Paragraph 1
Focus on your perspective/view before the experience that caused the change.
Body Paragraph 2
Explain what, or who, caused your perspective to change.
Body Paragraph 3
Explain what, or who, caused your perspective to change.
Body Paragraph 4
Reflect on what this change has meant for you.
Conclusion
Summarize your essay and reinforce your thesis.
Do not bring up any new information in this paragraph.
