Assignment Description
Purpose: To help nursing students become accustomed to searching the literature for evidence that supports nursing practice, and to polish poster and oral presentation skills. This is an individual assignment.
Task: You are an experienced nurse who just signed a contract for a staff position at Monarch General Hospital. On your first month at work, you notice a few questionable nursing practices that you learned to do differently at your previous place of employment. As a BSN-prepared nurse, your unit manager has asked you to review the best evidence on the topic and create an A/V poster presentation for your colleagues on the unit. He has asked you record and share your presentation so that both night and day shifts can view it at their convenience.
Issues: The following is a list of your priority areas. You must choose one to focus on right now.
IV Insertion
Use of Bariatric beds
Bed pans
Male & Female external urinary diversion devices
Proper use of Restraints
Intramuscular injection
Wet to dry dressing alternatives
Umbilical cord care
Nasogastric tube insertion
Use of Bed Alarms
Transfusion procedures

Choose a topic area from the list above.
Review nursing, medical, and evidence-based practice literature related to your topic, following guidelines from the rubric to ensure you obtain information that addresses each section of the rubric.

Use How to Create a Professional Poster as your guide for spacing, text size, headings, and content in your poster. Poster examples are also located in this resource.
Please Note: A good oral presentation should address each of the areas of the rubric. However, your poster should not contain, word for word, everything in the rubric. The purpose of the poster is to highlight and summarize the information.
Create an oral presentation: Narrate your poster using the instructions found below. The oral presentation should last between 3-5 minutes, be succinct, clear, and incorporate all aspects of the grading rubric.
Record your presentation: There are several options for both making the recording and adding it to your Kaltura My Media account. Once the recording added to My Media, follow Step 8 for adding the recording to Canvas.
Option 1: Record using a Zoom Cloud RecordingLinks to an external site.. If using this option, you will record using your ODU Zoom account and select the “record to cloud” option, which will automatically add the recording to your Kaltura My Media account when complete. The instructions will explain the process, and for sharing your screen to narrate your presentation poster. You do not need to record yourself in the webcam, only your screen and the narration.
Option 2: Recording with KalturaLinks to an external site.. If using this option, the instructions include installing the Kaltura Capture app which will enable you to share your screen and narrate your presentation poster. You do not need to record yourself in the webcam, only your screen and the narration. Once complete, your recording will now be available in Kaltura My Media.
Option 3: If you have already made your presentation recording with another app and it’s stored as a media file on your computer or mobile device, you can follow these instructions to Upload a Recording to KalturaLinks to an external site..
