During this course, you have read exemplary literary works from the Middle Ages through the eighteenth century. You have studied how the political, religious, social, and cultural context of each time period influenced the works, and how writers’ personal biographies also impacted literary output. In addition, you have traced the development of important topics, themes, literary styles, and literary conventions. Now, consider the larger implications of a study of early British literature and what it can teach us about ourselves and our world.
