This week, you will upload the elements of your portfolio through Portfolium (see instructions below).
This portfolio assignment is a structured opportunity to reflect on your own experiences and develop a stronger understanding of who you are as a person and HR professional. Specifically, it will allow you to consider your courses and activities at WilmU and the ways these have helped you develop a range of skills and accomplishments.
The New World Dictionary defines the word portfolio as a “selection of representative works.” During this assignment, you will collect “representative works” from your educational experiences, your work experiences, and your academic and community accomplishments. You will put them into a professional format through Portfolium and be able to share them with potential employers.
Your portfolio will include:
1. Professional Resume: A 1-2 page document outlining your accomplishments, work history, and education. Be sure to integrate feedback you received from the Career Services office.
2. Cover Letter: A professional business letter emphasizing what you are able to contribute to a company or organization.
3. Professional Letter of Recommendation: A letter that addresses your professional capability, written by a current/former supervisor, a mentor, or another professional in your network. ( will have professional sign)
Academic Letter of Recommendation: A letter that addresses your academic/professional capability, written by a current/former instructor. Note that for the purposes of this assignment, the instructor for this course cannot provide a letter of recommendation.
The URL of your completed LinkedIn profile: At a minimum, your LinkedIn profile should include a professional profile picture, a brief “About” descriiption, a completed Experience section, and an updated Education section. Add your LinkedIn URL to your Profile in Portfolium (click on the “Me” dropdown menu from the main page and then select “Settings” — scroll down to see social media URL spaces). If you run into any problems trying to add your LinkedIn, please go ahead and include it directly in your text submission on Canvas (along with your elevator pitch and the link to the portfolio).
4.Professional Development Plan (3-5 pages), in which you:
Outline both your short-term and long-term professional goals.
Identify non-technical skills or abilities that you need to acquire/develop and outline steps you can take to build these skills/abilities.
Identify key contacts (allies, mentors, advisers, teammates, supporters) you will need to find or recruit to pursue your professional goals.
Address how you will prioritize or choose between activities and demands on your time, according to your stated goals.
5. Outline checkpoints, metrics, deadlines, or processes of self-evaluation to ensure you make progress toward achieving your goals.
6. Elevator Pitch Video: A 90-second professional introduction using Kaltura. NOTE: Video files cannot be added directly to Portfolium. Please submit your Kaltura elevator pitch video directly in the assignment on Canvas.
Optional: Select Work Samples (presentations, papers, spreadsheets, etc.) tied to the Society for Human Resource Management Competencies.
