Assignment Outline
Paragraph #1—An introduction to the controversial issue that includes a source citation addressing the seriousness of the issue and that ends with your Research Question
Paragraph #2—Objectively explores THREE predominant points of view concerning the issue (three different ways to answer the Research Question)—paraphrases and correctly cites from one article per position to help you explain each point of view (3 articles total)
The third point of view should be the point of view that you will take in the paper, but it should not be evident to your reader that this is the case—The discussion of this third point of view should remain as objective as the first two
Paragraph #3— Summarizes the controversial issue/problem, explains why it matters, transitions into your point of view, and ends with your Thesis Statement/Main Claim
The Thesis Statement must be underlined
Paragraph #4—Presents one SubClaim/SubArgument that supports the claim you have made in your Thesis Statement. Includes one correctly formatted citation that supports your SubClaim
Paragraph #5— Presents one SubClaim/SubArgument that supports the claim you have made in your Thesis Statement. Includes one correctly formatted citation that supports your SubClaim
Paragraph #6— Presents one SubClaim/SubArgument that supports the claim you have made in your Thesis Statement. Includes one correctly formatted citation that supports your SubClaim
Paragraph #7—A conclusion that summarizes the controversial issue and restates your thesis
You will need to correctly cite from at least six different articles following documentation guidelines from the MLA Handbook, 9th ed. This includes a correctly formatted Works Cited page listing all six plus articles cited in the paper.
The articles may come from the FSW Library databases or through an Advanced Google Search
For each article cited, you will need to provide a live link to the article
For Web articles, simply provide the live URL in the Work Cited entry for the article
For FSW Database articles, upload THE PDF OF THE ARTICLE onto your FSW Google Drive and then create a live link to the PDF to include in the source’s Work Cited entry. The instructions for creating such a link is posted in the course modules on Canvas.
