The original essay should be five pages in length. The title page is not part of the five-page count–Title pages always include the following elements: title, student name, class section, date, etc. All work turned in as part of the course requirements should be typed in Microsoft Word (Font 12, Times New Roman, 1” margins, double-spaced, and pages numbered). All rules related to grammar, punctuation, spelling, etc. will apply. Keep the following factors in mind when writing your essay–Why is this primary source historically significant? Is it unique? What should we know about the author(s)? What is the context of the document? Be specific.
MLA is the citation style to be used. Three peer-reviewed, academic journals should be incorporated and cited appropriately in the essay—that means in-text citations and Works cited page. The following are NOT suitable references/sources/sites: Wikipedia, Cliff’s Notes, Bing, Ask.com, Sparksnotes.com, questionz.net, encyclopedia, dictionary, newspaper, the media, textbooks, class notes, His.com, Bio.com, or SITES/WORKS SIMILAR TO THESE, etc. Newspaper articles or anything of the sort are not allowed. If you use sites like these, your essay will receive significant deductions.
Plagiarism and cheating of any sort will result in the student(s) failing the course. Acceptance of late work is at the discretion of the instructor, but as a rule, late work will not be
accepted. Incomplete or substandard work will be penalized accordingly.
