The 17 UN Sustainability Development Goals offer a spectrum of global challenges that need to be addressed.
To that end, you have been hired by a World Bank task force to identify opportunities to reframe one of the issues mentioned above and design a solution to address one of the UN SDGs in your country (Teams can select any country of their choice).
To do so, you will have to select one UN SDG (this is a macro element), then choose a country, and decide HOW, WHO, WHEN, and WHERE this small pilot project (this is the micro focus of the assignment) will be designed, implemented, and tested.
You are encouraged to use both theoretical and practical dimensions to provide a detailed analysis by answering the following questions:
What is the challenge?
What is driving or causing it?
Who is affected
What are the environmental factors prevalent?
Who are the people most impacted (general characteristics and main pains)? How do they behave?
What are the pain points?
Are there any unique circumstances that need to be identified?
How might we solve this challenge (initial thoughts and ideas on how this problem can be addressed)?
What prototype has been designed?
How will it be tested?
What, if any, is the impact of the solution proposed?
To do so, you will have to prepare a report with:
500 words (
10%) that support the design thinking elements on your MIRO board. Teams will be required to share the link to the Miro Board alongside any screenshots they deem necessary – you can use an appendix for additional information (the appendix does not count towards the word count).
Please note this is an individual assignment and should not be confused with your Miro boards and analysis for the group project and challenge.
The MIRO boards will utilize relevant design thinking principles/ frameworks to justify and provide evidence of your solution. Remember that you must carry out comprehensive research that supports your interpretation of the critical issues necessary to address the underlying complexity.
Students must submit this assignment in Word format (doc or docx) and remember to include the link to your personal Miro board. Make sure your Miro board is visible to anyone with the link.
Note.
Students must define and offer a context of the initial challenge before reframing it.
Any identified causes of the challenge MUST be qualified with data and statistics
The intervention SHOULD be proactive in nature.
Remember to consider:
The use of Technology [hard, soft, and knowledge]
The use and understanding of the different kinds of innovation- frugal, radical, etc
You can provide a persona and an empathy map for the selected target group.
