Overview
For this paper, you are going to expand on a functional area of business and organization management. You have the option to select a new topic or use a one of the business and organization management topics referenced in your previous course assignments of:
• Discussion Thread: Researching a Problem
• Discussion Thread: Business Research Trends
• Discussion Thread: Opportunities in Business
• Annotated Bibliography: Business Topics and Concepts Assignment
Your choice of topic should be different than the one you wrote about in the Business and Organization: Problem Statement Comparison Paper Assignment.
Your paper should focus on a functional area of business and organization management. Include an introduction of the functional topic you selected. The discussion should include a historical definition based on literature, a discussion of the current research in the field (last 5 years only), the organizational impact of the function on business, the importance of the function to workforce management and development, future trends in the functional area, and a section that addresses future questions that will need to be addressed and/or explored in research. This exercise will enhance your knowledge in your potential dissertation topic as well as help you to determine the research viability of the topic.
Instructions
• This paper should draw on a minimum of six substantial journal article resources and will be 6 to 8 pages in length (not including the title page, abstract, or reference pages) observing all APA style conventions.
• You may use any articles or writings that you wrote about in your previous discussions in this course as well as new ones.
• The organization of your paper should be as follows:
o Title Page
o Introduction: Gives an overview of the functional topic you selected and discusses the organization of your paper. You would also include your historical definition here based on the literature.
o Current Research: In this section, you will include a discussion of the current research in the field (last 5 years only), the organizational impact of the function on business, the importance of the function to workforce management and development. You will support each of these themes with your research articles. You will also identify future trends in the topic.
o Future Questions: In this section, you will discuss the future research areas that were present in the articles you synthesized. You should discuss the functional area anddiscuss any gaps in the literature as it relates to the topic. These should come directly from the research.
