Write an essay interpreting or analyzing a certain element of the short story we read in class “The Story of an Hour “.  You should focus on one specific writing technique employed by the writer.
Your introduction should consist of a short summary of the story (four or five sentences only) and a thesis stating how the writer uses one or two elements of the fiction to convey the meaning to the readers.  This element can be how the writer uses imagery, foreshadowing, characterization, the setting, the symbolism, and structure of the story to convey the theme. Your thesis should have at least three supporting points, which should be developed by using TIR (T—topic sentence; R; Restatement of the topic sentence; and I—examples) for each paragraph in the body of the essay. You must use ample examples from the story to back up your major points. Remember you are analyzing how the writer uses certain writing technique to convey the massage instead of summarizing what happens in the story.
Your essay will be evaluated or commented on with the following points:
A workable thesis explicitly states the point you are making about how the writer uses one element to convey the meaning to the audience
The clear and logical presentation of the subtopics supporting you thesis to your targeted audience
The use of specific examples from the story to back up your thesis and supporting points
The appropriate use of words and expressions.
Correctness of grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
