In a well-organized and error-free argument, write an essay of five to six paragraphs (approximately 1000-1200 words) on one of the topics below or suggest your own topic to me for approval. Use your time wisely; begin by using some of the invention (pre-writing) methods we discussed in class to come up with ideas. Once you have framed a thesis (main claim) and generated support for the thesis, arrange your ideas into an outline. Be sure to provide specific details and/or examples to support your claims. You must demonstrate that you followed the stages of the writing process from pre-writing to editing. All papers must be word processed, double-spaced, 12 font size, Time New Romans, and no bold face or italicization of the title or sentences. Your Take-Home Essay #3 will be a position Argument. In it, you will take a position on a controversial topic in an effort to persuade your resisting audience to agree with you. That argument will be supported by evidence such as facts, statistics, reasons, anecdotes, and real-life events, as well as by your own reasoning and experience. Because this is a researched argument, it means that you are required to cite multiple sources in your essay to support your ideas. Supporting ideas with research is not new; it is a key function of academic practice in general and a central expectation in scholarly writing in college in particular.
