Prompt 1: Why does the United States pursue international humanitarian policy? How should the United States deal with the poor human rights records of its trading partners, like China, or allies, like Saudi Arabia?
Prompt 2: How do the different branches of government interact, reinforce, or constrain one another in creating, interpreting, and enforcing foreign policy choices?
Prompt 3: Which foreign policy goals (national security, economic prosperity, and humanitarianism) do the Democratic and Republicans focus on? What are the similarities and differences in the goals they claim to focus on and those they put into policy action?
Prompt 4: What is the difference between soft and hard power? Under what circumstances would either be the most effective set of foreign policy tools?
Prompt 5: Should the United States be directly involved in humanitarian assistance, or should it be handled solely by nongovernmental organizations, such as the Red Cross, or international organizations, like the UN?
Prompt 6: What do you think will be the most important foreign policy challenge the United States will face in the next 10 years? Why? What tools of foreign policy will the United States emphasize most in tackling this challenge?
