Consider the different forms of regionalism that we covered in this unit—or even a form we did not have the chance to
<
cover. We have covered just some of the larger and more well-known forms of regionalism, but there are many! Then, use
<
the prompt below to guide your creation of a reflection paper of at least two pages in length.
<
Consider places where you have lived, where your family members grew up, or even places that you have visited while
<
traveling. Can you think of any regional literature associated with any of those places? How about music, art, films, folk tales
<
and local lore, or any part of the local culture? You may even wish to include items such as beloved local foods or culturally
<
significant products. For instance, Prince Edward Island residents have Anne of Green Gables. New Orleanians have the
<
works of Tennessee Williams, Anne Rice, and many others. Those from the Mississippi Gulf Coast could cite the art of
<
Walter Andersen. Chicagoans might wish to list the films of John Hughes. Atlanta residents could add Outkast or Coca-Cola
<
to their lengthy lists.
<
List as many examples as you can come up with. In what way or ways do you feel connected to the items you have listed?
<
How do they color your impressions of such places? How do you think they color others’ impressions of such places, and
<
how do you feel about that? To what degree are others’ impressions accurate?
